Seems like a good re-signing.

He remains an "if" player..... but at least now it's not "if he can get fit he might be good", it is "he's a bloody good player if he can stay fit".

With Weiters and Kemp forms a tremendous air-power combo in defence that can start the ball going the other way at speed.

Fingers crossed. Type of player you get nervous about once he's got a new contract in his back pocket.

Hopefully the chance for team success now will drive his prep and performance. Also competition from the likes of Kemp, Marchy, Newman, Cowan and Cinc.

We all love a good Gov.

Great signing assuming the money is modest.

Based on what his brother did to the Dogs over the weekend he's very welcome to come over and help with our 2024 premiership defence too.

The money doesn’t concern me, but it should be pay for play triggers to get the bigger coin.

Carlton’s important intercept defender Mitch McGovern has signed a new two-year deal – with the trigger for a third year – that could see him remain at the Blues until the end of the 2026 season.

The deal is understood to be between $400,000-$500,000 per season, a huge reduction on the deal he signed to come to Carlton from Adelaide in late 2018.

Mitch McGovern is on about $800,000 on this contract? That is a decent saving and it should help the club maybe target an upcoming FA.

^^^^
trigger for a third snuck under the radar a bit here..........

To be fair, he's been paid a looooot of guaranteed money for a lot of games missed. If he hits his triggers (presumably games played, some sort of performance metric... maybe B&F?) then good luck to him and good business by everyone involved. 2 years + 1 if he earns it.

Thoroughly deserved. The way he was treated in his years up forward was disgusting. The club played him injured/underdone which made him a whipping boy.
