As frustrating as the last fortnight has been, one of the positives to take away from things is that it's not our "senior" players who've been leading from the front & driving things, rather it's been the next gen that have been standing up

If it was the same old names like Stewart, C. Guthrie, Tuohy, Rohan, Duncan, Hawkins etc that were the driving force keeping us in games, it would feel a lot more disappointing as it would be head scratching about who's going to be stepping up

Instead, it's guys like Holmes, Miers & Stengle that have elevated their games this year. Conway showed some real positive signs tonight along with every game he's played this season, Dempsey has shown good signs this season & Mullin looks like a player to persist with & showing something new each match - if he hadn't gone to Italy for his sister's wedding, wonder if we would have seen him a bit more regularly are senior level this season

The other thing with Mullin is that they seemed to play him in the backline tonight - with his speed, he can provide some run & drive from there, which can then allow us to play Holmes more in the guts where we've seen him have influence

The biggest mistake we could make from here is bringing back too many veteran players at the expense of the youth, but we also need to be mindful of not just pushing the veterans aside - need to keep a balance to the team, but if it's a line ball decision make sure we keep looking to the future

Ive said all year you can't be a top 4 side with that midfield and we are finally starting to get found out, GWS and Swans games huge could easily be 8th in a couple weeks.

Holmes has to start on ball next week, piss off the half back rubbish is our best midfielder by a mile so play him there.

Problem is the more we rely on the older guys the more it will hurt us long term, this isn't ideal but we're 7-3, just need to hold on until danger gets back and pray he doesn't get injured again and hope we can win it but it's not looking too good.

Yes I get it. Just letting off steam- but Hawk and Cameron (and Danger) and Duncan marginally were missed as it turns out. Stanley not so much, but they'll factor Toby in with him I reckon. Who knows they probably would have faded like perspiring Daisies, or not.

Not sure I'm happy now about all the managed when Scott said it wasn't about giving others opportunity.
Off to Bedfordshire, what a shite night and now weekend- possible we slip to sixth.

People play sport in tropical countries. It’s not unsafe
They do , they also live there too not too many sports in this country switches from Victoria to Darwin do they?

There’s a reason why there will never be a team in that shithole of place

Older players were pretty horrible.
Younger ones did their best but belted.

Older blokes got belted and were invisible.
Blitz Guthrie 2E Rohan all useless in this one.

Dropped a tonne of %

19-4 free kick count at one point.

We were s**t but thats unacceptable umpiring.

Im sure CGS will revert to their usual selves next week.

Good on them.

Got 10 days off now and we'll need it to get over that

Conway
Miers
Mullin
OH
Zuthrie
All get picked next week.

Hope they play Neale again but they wont.

GO Catters
Neale did a few ok things after the game was completely gone. Early when the game was on he was non existent.

Still want to see Knevitt get a crack in the seniors soon. Watching the VFL he looks the type who'd benefit from playing alongside more capable teammates. Good mark and does some nice things in tight with the ball that end up being fumbled or not capitalised on by the guys at VFL level. Need to see what we've got on the list as far as the midfield is concerned.

I can’t remember the last time we conceded such a high score. In the game where Sydney smashed us by 110 points in 2014, they only scored 148. We’d probably have to go back 20+ years to find our last time conceding 164+ points?
Rd 1 1990 v Hawthorn? Or maybe a 90s Football Park belting v Adelaide?

The midfield needs a massive overhaul.
Whether you can do it to the extent we need too is doubtlful mid-seasason, but has to happen post-season.
Hardie & Clohesy in particular should have extra motivation to perform well in the VFL after watching that.
Atkins, C.Guthrie are getting games on reputation and not form at the moment. Mind you there are a few others not far behind them.

Going forward what have we got to build on in the midfield?
Say you need 8-9 players who can go through there (incl rucks), who will be in that group for us in 2026?
Conway. tick.
Holmes. tick.
Bruhn. tick.
Clark. tick.
After that, I struggle, and only Holmes I can see being elite in a couple of years.
Miers. maybe but he's at his best as a half forward who pushes up the ground.
Knevitt? Hardie? Bowes? Parfitt? Mullin? Stevens? Edwards? Who knows, but a couple need to come on quick.
We have to free up some cap space, either through retirements or some tough calls, and go shopping for some elite midfield talent. LDU, Smith, Perkins, McCluggage and others need to be pursued hard or we could be in a world of pain. We saw what it looks like tonight.
