Showing some age (experience) there...
I haven't heard of (or thought of) Tony Hall for decades. I remember I saw him do his knee in a state game in the late 80's. Awesome player with the Bays and then Hawthorn from memory. When did he last play?
For us, in 1995.

Only a three-week layoff? I guess our doctors know best but holy hell
Maybe it's a situation where 2-3 weeks is about as good as it'll get without surgery? So you decide then to either play on sore or pack it in for the season and have the surgery? I guess if we lose a few more to put finals out of reach then maybe he'll go in for the surgery then.

I presume that r16-18 means thats when he can be cleared medically to play, which would mean a few games in the SANFL at least before any return to the AFL?

If it gets to that stage, I wonder if the best course of action would be just to make sure he is cherry ripe and healthy for a solid preseason instead?
Agree with you.
Hopefully our ladder position is not used as incentive to a forced decision.

That said, if we're contending for finals in round 16-18, it means something has gone astonishingly right between now and then. In which case, is TT an urgent inclusion?

I say a few gentle SANFL games to finish the season and aim for next year. There's much to lose if we get it wrong.

Nah bugger that. He can help get us a SANFL Flag before we move into AFL Reserves.

Unless the world goes Topsy Turvy, there is no way TT isn't an upgrade on whichever of Gollant, Himmelberg and Burgess is in the team at that point.

Pedlar only 2-3 weeks non surgical route

Forward Luke Pedlar is on track to return in the next fortnight after missing the Showdown win with a shoulder injury.

Pedlar dislocated his right shoulder in a tackle against North Melbourne in Round 7 and was subbed out of the game but has made a pleasing recovery.

He will continue to train and is expected to be available for selection in coming weeks.

“Luke went and got a couple of surgical opinions and he will improve his strength over the next couple of weeks and be available in about two to three weeks’ time,” Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

His name was mentioned regularly in commentary during the AAMI Stadium days because of the "Tony Hall (south-western) Pocket"

Is it a 4 month recovery from surgery like that?

I guess he figures he may as well have a crack. If it doesn't work out will still be on target to start next season

Unless he can make it worse...?

I’m comfortable with it, if the specialist thinks there chance of making it worse is low

I think the easier that it’s coming out, the less damage it’s likely to cause. Not much is going to change in a couple of weeks, it’ll be strap and hope. When I had my putti-platt surgery in year 12 and, from memory, you wouldn’t be running within a month. I’d imagine he’d go out before season end if we’re not in the hunt.

Is this a bit of a myth amongst footy fans, that surgery is always the best course of action?

We need a doctor in here!
Yes it’s a myth. I’ve had injuries to multiple body parts in the past and most times, just plain rest is needed for a few days to a few weeks. The only time you would jump straight into surgery is when you know resting alone won’t help (like a displaced fracture or a significant tear to the tendons, ligaments or cartilage).
