Ben King at #6 is almost unanimous as DO NOT want. We are crying out for mids above all else. Now watch our recruiting team pick him.
That it is the accursed pick number 6 makes it a formality.
Since May left, we're actually pretty desperate for a tall defender. We're basically relying on Rory Thompson to remain completely uninjured in 2019 and retain his 2018 form (his sole good year, honestly), otherwise we're relying wholly on an underwhelming Jack Leslie. Our depth past this point is makeshift options like Sam Day or Charlie Ballard, but if they're injured as well, what we're left with are some really horrible alternatives like sending a hilariously undersized Harbrow on the opposition's best tall and other weird match-ups that'll just make us cry.

We also recruited Sam Collins and Burgess from the state leagues who are physically ready. Lukosius can also play back but will probably start on a flank. King shapes as a super key defender down the track. Problem with Ben King is that he won’t have the body to play as a KPD for another 2-3 years. We all saw what languishing in the reserves did for Scrimshaw. He sooked up and left.

Well, it's not like we can just stop recruiting KPDs for fear they'll sook and leave. Rory Thompson is 27 and not getting any younger. Collins and Burgess are about on the same level as Leslie. We'd be kidding ourselves if we didn't see them as anything more than KPP depth while we wait for Lukosius and King to develop. Basically, KPPs were our top priority and I can't knock our recruiters for drafting them over midfield talent.

That’s debatable. Really we need a bit of everything, KPPs, mids, small forwards and defenders, you name it. Cameron said they considered mids but went for best available which is probably right given the other options available at that pick. I’ve still got some hope for Leslie. He’s a great size and has only played 28 games being in and out of the team. Just hasn’t been given a decent shot at it to get some continuity. Anyway it’s Cameron’s first draft with us, so until he goes all Scott Clayton on us and recruits skinny flanker after skinny flanker, we’ve got to back him in with this decision. It’s done now and no changing it... until Ben King requests a trade ;)

Yeah, it's really not debatable. King was the best performing KPD in this draft and we needed a KPD more than anything else (Thompson, who'll be 28 by next season, is all we have - and I'm not so quick to forget how bog-average he was before this year). I like Leslie, but if I was pressed to choose our second best KPD, I'd rate Collins higher... and Collins was a fringe player at Fremantle.

Mind you, thank god the days of flashy flankers are gone. Right about that.

The "I don't want to draft player from another state because he might go home" thread.

What a sad state of affairs the AFL has become when we worry about our players leaving because they're all mentally weak minded and can get home too easily.

A number of us on the Dogs board are worried about Ben King being another ‘project tall’ - which historically have been terrible selections for us....

That’s before the dud brother rule is also applied.....
We would've copped dud brother for sure on either of them :D

Given that draft guru Chris Doerre (a.k.a. Knightmare) doesn't personally rate Quaynor inside the top 50, I really hope the Pies don't match any high bid.
He rated Reece McKenzie really high one year

Sometimes he's right, sometimes he's not

Wait and see with Quaynor

Absolutely do not want Izak Rankine. Way too much risk given his extra-curricular activities...
Izak is worse than Bo Callahan.
Fine, we'll take him then.
No you won't. Your getting this instead....
Chayce Jones.

Undersized mid who is ok at a lot of things and not really good at anything. We've got plenty of them.

Im cautious about us taking Mchenry and Hill.
Especially if Stocker is still available.
Round one clash, just added a bit more fun. :p
