The best Wrestler EVER??

Mr.T, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Roddy Piper, Ake the Snake Roberts,Angre the Giant would it be the old wrestlers like that or would it be the new ones like Rock, Stone Cold or even Undertaker.

Or it could be Mr.America

I say Rock! or Hulk Hogan

Oh man is this an argument starting thread or what???

There is no way you could give just one name. For me, the list can be shortened to the following names (in no particular order);

Lou Thesz
Bruno Sammartino
Ric Flair
Ricky Steamboat
Randy Savage
Bret Hart
Shawn Michaels
Jushin Liger
Curt Hennig
Brian Pillman
Owen Hart
(the last two died WAY too early in their wrestling lives)

Neither the Rock nor Hogan are great wrestlers. The Rock makes up for his lack of in ring ability with his mic work. He is one of the greats there. Hogan was over with the fans with his gimmick, but will never gain respect as a wrestler.

I agree with that list, but I want to add a few names

Kurt Angle
Chris Benoit
Lance Storm
Kanyon (Very good worker, lame gimmicks are holding him back)

There are others if you wish to name them :D

I didn't add Angle and Storm because they haven't been around long enough. I can see them on the list in a few years time - although Storm needs to be treated with some more respect. I'll add Benoit to the list when he finally gets his hands on world gold. As for Chris Kanyon - maybe his gimmicks have been holding him back but I couldn't say, because I haven't seen him when he hasn't been under the pump of a gimmick.

This one is tough but here's my number one:

Kurt Angle

My prerequisites for an ideal superstar wrestler are the following - technical ability, look, stamina, strength, speed, believability in style, versatility in working different styles, ability to carry average to bad opponents, charisma and toughness. There is no other wrestler on the planet that combines these attributes so prodigally as Kurt Angle does. He's been the most consistent PPV performer since Shawn Michaels at his peak, and even now he's beginning to surpass him. He's also set a new standard for carrying injuries into money matches (ie PPV main events) and still putting on ****+ displays (watch WM 19 v Lesnar - broker neck, or King of the RIng 2001 v Shane McMahon - cracked tailbone, for proof). He's risen to the top despite lousy booking and storylines, and on sheer ability he's made it. Off the top of my head he's had **** or above matches in his short time in the industry with Austin, Rock, Benoit, HHH (God knows how), Edge, Kane (one great TV match), Rey Mysterio, Lesnar and a non wrestler in Shane McMahon. He's also been involved in absolute killer tag team matches when paired up with Benoit against both Los Guerreros and Edge & Rey Rey.

All due respect to the other guys you listed, as some are my all time favourites, but I still think Kurt is the man.

Patridge, as much talent and ability Kurt Angle has - he's only been in the business for so long (Four years off the top of my head). Most of the wrestlers I've named have had as many if not many more matches of the quality that you described.

He doesn't have the legacy of the others either - yet. Key word - YET.

I've thought about a list so here I go

Tito Santana
Rick "The Model" Martel (Gimmicks didn't do him justice)
Kerry Von Erich (and the rest of the Von Erich's)
Jerry "The King" Lawler (had a lot of good matches in the AWA)
Dory Funk, Jr.
Terry Funk
Ultimo Dragon (I'm not sure if I can add him but I did)
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine
Chris Adams

There's a few good wrestlers.

Who in the blue hell are you talking about???

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!

*LMAO*

Sorry, couldn't resist that!! :)

The Rock actually isn't a great technical wrestler - but what he lacks in the ring, he more than makes up for on the microphone. Probably one of the best of all time in that regard at least.

When Kurt Angle retires in the (hopefully) very, very distint future, he will go down as the greatest ever. However at the present time, the title of best ever can only be bestowed upon the head of one man ... The Nature Boy, RIC FLAIR. For close to 20 years he was the number one in-ring performer, made hacks like Lex Luger look a million bucks, put on more classic matches than any other five wrestlers combined, could change styles at the drop of a hat (was a top liner in Japan, Puerto Rico as well as the USA), cut awesome promos and had a fantastic character.

Ric Flair may not be at his best any more, but in his prime he was one of the greats.

Forget "Mr.America"!

Yes, Jeff Hardy has retired. He's into music now apparently - he has a band and is concentrating on that. I believe Shannon Moore is a member of it as well.

If you think jeff Hardy is a good wrestler you have no idea and IF and IF you think RVD is a good wrestler, you should never watch Pro Wrestling again. Hogan/Andre was Mania 3, not 2. At 2 it was Hogan/Bundy in a cage. And for the record Hogan/Andre was a shocking match, Thank goodness for Savage and Steamboat - now THAT was an all time classic!

The double DQ was at Mania 4 - and it was terrible booking!! A proper referee would have DQed Hogan!

Denoz, if any of those guys that no one aside from you has even heard of were any good, they'd be in the WWE by now - given all the new faces that have been showing up since the roster split. Did it occur to you to wonder why? How about the ability to PERFORM! Purely wrestling is only part of the package you know!

BTW - I agree with you about some of them as being very good.

Paul London signed yesterday for WWE so he is ruined and Ultimo Dragon is WWE.

But dude you have to relise the WWE has wrecked wrestling. they dont care about skill anymore. It's about promos and entertainment. It's all bull****. They only care about raitings if someone can do a good promo or who is roided up they are WWE. Look at Nathan Jones. he is big so he is "over" i can tell you now ask any promoter, if they ran WWE they would cut the bull**** and hire everyone i listed.

I wasn't including London or Dragon in my list of "no goods".

Any other promoter did what you are suggesting - and WWE would fall flat on it's face in a split second. A good wrestler HAS to be able to do a good promo - as well as be able to wrestle. You want to go one way. WWE is going the other way. The correct way is in between the two.

And if you think wrestling has nothing to do with entertainment at all, then you aren't a true wrestling fan. It's like I said before - it's the ability to PERFORM. That means wrestling AND promos - not the roids of course. You're right, WWE concentrate more on the promos, which is wrong. But don't dump them altogether! It's part of the whole ESSENTIAL package - entertainment.

I Beleive in wrestling before entertainment. Japan is the place no promos and bull**** there. Same with ROH and IWA MS

Japan DO promos - they do them in the ring, during the match. Anyway, isn't it struggling somewhat?

Are you actually involved in the business? I would guess the answer is no. Well - I am. So don't think you know more than I do, because you don't. If Ring of Honour and IWA MS were as good as you say they are they would have more coverage than they do - or they have too much UV which would have the same effect.

Just concentrating on wrestling and only wrestling will NOT pay the bills. Fact.

Nopes. IWA MS gets there money from SMV and ROH from RF Video. They don't get TV shows because stations dont come to them. CZW has a tv show but thats because it's Big in Philly.
