Who gets the rising star nomination for Rd 1? Likely to be either Sam Lalor 18 possessions, 2 goals and 8 score involvements, or Murphy Reid 13 disposals, 4 goals and 7 score involvements.
My nod would be Lalor who was in everything, however Reid's 4 goals in 10 mins is pretty special. Whoever misses out would be stiff.

I'd give it to Reid. 4 in 10 minutes just doesn't happen ever, to do it on debut must be rewarded.

Lalor will get it extremely soon. Will probably win the whole thing
Possibly although if Lalor did miss he'd be extremely stiff. I didn't see the cats v free game, what was Reid like outside of those 10mins?

Did they have a rising star nom for round 0?

Either way, it could be considered unfair.
They did last year, doesn't seem like they did this year.

Doesn't really matter, but Ashcroft would be my choice this week with 25 possessions. It's just good to see so many kids from the last draft look to have the goods so far.

Lalor
Trainor
Ashcroft
Kako
M.Reid

Hope to see more, makes watching games better when new players do well.

Reid was really good in a burst but Lalor was better for the entirety of the game and had a big contribution to his team actually winning, so he should get the nod.

Reid would get one fairly soon though, you'd imagine.

I suspect the politics and PR of it all could be the deciding factor. (I know, AFL caring about politics and PR...unthinkable!)

Lalor WILL get another chance to be nominated, and after the last draft, there is a fair chance several other Richmond players will too.

Reid SHOULD get another chance (and he's probably the only one from Freo who will)

They might hold off on Lalor to guarantee (as near as they can) that both players/clubs get noms.

Ashcroft will probably miss out for the same reason as Lalor (sure to get another chance), and more importantly due to both the AFL and club wanting to keep things fairly low key there to avoid highlighting the Premiers getting a top pick like that....Yes, it's all within the rules, etc. but that doesn't mean they'll want to highlight it wave it in everyone's faces and encourage a backlash...Somewhere around round 6-16 will do fine.

It's being rolled into the round 1 nomination process as there were only two games.

It is a tough one already and I only saw Lalor and Reids games.
Just for the record though everyone is saying Reid kick 4 in 10 minutes, it was actually 4 in less than 4 minutes, (only just over 3 minutes) in a side that got smashed.
