Had $50 ew What a Nuisance, won roughly a grand, spent most of it on a stereo for the car ONLY TO HAVE IT STOLEN A FEW MONTHS LATER.
Had $100 straight out on Let's Elope & Subzero.
Had $5 on Jeune but unfortunately had $100 on one of the imports which I think ran last...........and has been pretty disappointing since then

I couldn't pick nor draw the winner in sweeps for about 20 years but it has been a good race for me lately.
I have backed in no particular order Saintly,Might and Power,Ethereal,Makybe Diva twice,Rogan Josh, Media Puzzle.
I made a few bob from them but I haven't nailed a decent exotic yet.

one of the best bet races for me.
Started like many at a young age having 1 bet on the race.

Kingston Rule - thought it was Kingston Town

Then I started really following the GG's
Let's Elope
Subzero - was in SA when it won the Adel cup, couldn't have anything else
Jeune
Doriemus
Saintly
Might & Power - was my first Caulfield win
Got the tri in 98
Brew - backed it months out
Media Puzzle
Then the day the cups markets opened Makybe Diva Had $500 that day, a month later another $500, after her run at the Valley when 4th I had $350 on her and after the Caulfield cup I had $500 on her, got her at 14's, 12's, 12's, 8's and then on Melbourne cup day after backing the 2 year old winner at 16's (I had a tip that it was Matty's best 2yo) I loaded up and sat back with another $800 on her at $4.5, this was all after seeing her win at the Werribee cup meeting (today) in 02.
I backed her 2 months out last year, didn't have that much on her but still counts.

The trick I've found is find one in the lead up races and STICK to it.

the first race i ever watched was 1995 and i got Doriemus in the sweep

and i dont think there was a punter out there who didnt back Media Puzzle

Have backed the mighty mare the last two years.

Missed 3 MC's due to travel.

Backed Might and Power in 97 after winning $500 on him CC Day.

hahaha we should turn this into the not wat ive supposdley backed thread but what I am ganna back and discus what we think!!

Very open race this time round realisticly the diva and railings should be 5-1 favs, im liking Vinnie Roe, but will more than likely not back it cos of its age(did that with FOO).

Railings really hasnt done a thing wrong and I will most certaintly be backing it!!

watched the 1986 melbourne cup preview and confidently told my year 2 teacher that at talaq would win the cup. i got a merit award that friday after and have loved cup day ever since

one winner since, saintly in 96 and a couple of places and quinellas along the way

Sorry Echucaboy, I've been betting on the Melbourne Cup since 1977 and still to this day I haven't backed a winner. You caught me out, all that other stuff was cow droppings

Rogan Josh in 1999, and had the second placegetter e/w. I was introduced to the lady who would later become my wife at the Melbourne Cup that year too.

Then Media Puzzle.

I had Vinnie Roe all the way last year, couldn't believe it when the sneaky Diva came dashing up the inside.

I always pick one of the first 2-3 in betting in the sweeps and have never ever won one.

I'm due - I haven't backed one since Empire Rose (1988)!!!

I was 7 years old, and spent the day at the Corowa races. I had $3 each way on Empire Rose and $3 each way on Natski (which ran second). Since then I've gone bloody ordinary on the Cup (and the whole Cup Day program to be honest).

Don't really have any ideas for this year either but leaning towards Eye Popper. I think the Diva will win it if she runs, but not taking $2.50 in a 24 horse field. Something the win, triple the place Eye Popper should do the trick even if the Diva wins it.
