Just wondering if anyone knows what happened to Brad Plain?
I always thought he was a very decent player - averaged nearly 2 goals a game and kicked a few bags against Sydney- pretty sure he won a couple of games at least off his own boot against them.
Just googled him and he missed the 93 finals series when he averaged over 3 goals a game - was it because of injury>??
then went to collingwood and north melbourne for short uneventfull stints.
always thought he was the consumate goalsneak but didnt get enough games - maybe sheedy didnt like him??
anyone know why he never got on the park that much and what he did after footy??

Unlucky footballer, twice he experienced being at a club when they won a premiership - Ess in 93 (injured) and Nth in 96 (couldn't break into the 21).

Kicked a bag of 8 against Sydney. Most elusive, and made the most of his chances.

No idea where he is now though.

Growing up I never had a number on my Essendon Guernsey (always wanted #32), however, it was a long sleeve, and the only player I knew who wore long sleeves for Essendon was Brad Plain. Suffice to say, I used to run around the backyard kicking the footy pretending to be Brad Plain.

lol yodellinhank! I think he wore the long sleeves because he had a fair bit of ink. He wouldnt need them these days as plenty of players have 'inked up'.
always thought he was a bit of a freak and certainly unlucky not to have broken into those premiership sides in the 90's at Essendon & North. guys like him dont come along very often

We had some awesome goal sneaks back then with him and Bewick running around. I think 90% of my kicks at the park back then (I was 10) were snaps from near the boundary.

Used to like his goal celebrations too. Did some thing where he'd lick his fingers or something like that after a good one.

After his afl playing days, he played a few years at Lower Plenty in the Diamond Valley in the late 90's. Pretty sure he played in there 1999 premiership team. He also played cricket at Montmorency and played in 2 premierships there. I think he also played at Northcote Park and Mernda as well, but don't quote me on that. I think he still lives in the northern suburbs.

Was always my favourite player. Just loved him, but he was always unlucky. Could never string many consistent games together with dodgy hamstrings and soft tissue injuries. Just as he was getting a game or two he would get injured, and then struggle to get back into the side.
Just loved seeing him in long sleeves in No. 14. Still often think about him and wish we had the kind of player again that had an uncanny goal sense.

Great skills, unlucky with injuries but don't think was the most energetic worker on the park. Went missing in big games as well.

Remember one game at Princes Park when we overran Tigers in the 2nd half. Plain and Kickett destroyed them.

I doubt that he was the hardest worker on tthe track and suffered recurrent soft tissue injuries.

Played a few games in the midfield and did exceptionally well - A smart footballer with a good skills set and a good feel for the game.

Could have played midifeld if he worked harder.

Thanks for the info Son of Whispy.
Doesnt suprise me that he has a talented cricketer also, guys like him are often great all round sportsmen - you see that a bit with kids in the draft today. Still - a shame he had lots of injuries and didnt get on the park that much - I always thought he was a freakish player .

Same, I loved him. Would be interested to hear Sheeds or someone else discuss him.

I remember watching us play an exhibition game on telly.
I was quite young, so I can't remember where or when it was, but it was quite hot and he had the short sleeves on.

Old Sheedy precipatated the Pagans' paddock strategy one day out at Linton St. with Plain back in '91'. The Dons went in underdogs but the old fox made Plain work and left him on his own kicking up wind, and he carved them up, and kicked a bag.

Bump.
Just watched a short lived 'Football Record Video' from '93. Bradley Plain was regularly in the highlights clips. I admired him as an opposition supporter. I presume he missed out on the Dons flag in '93 because of injury. He was too talented to miss out. Do any of you Essendon folk know of his whereabouts these days?

Yep - dead right. I don't think he had a stat up to halftime & proceeded to kick 5 (IIRC) in the 2nd half.

He was a very talented player and great to watch when in full flight, but unfortunately was one of the laziest footballers to ever grace the park, hence the constant soft-tissue injuries. One of the last generation of recreational footballers who still made the top level on talent alone with no compromise to their lifestyle.

I remember him getting a free one game within range of goal, he gets up and whilst walking back on his mark (with back turned to goals), he starts bouncing the ball. The umpire didn't know what to do so just let him go back and take his shot, nowadays it'd be play on after the first bounce.

I remember that. City end forward flank near old members stand. Its funny that sticks out in someone else's mind too

Went from Ess to the Pies and we traded Adrian McAdam for him.

Only played 1 game for us and less than 10 at the pies.
Wow. Striking similarities with Ricky Olarenshaw.

If my memory serves me right he also always wore long sleeves to cover his tattoos !. Back in the day tattoos were frowned upon , nowadays it is the norm. He was recruited from Tasmania where he was a prodigious talent and has been stated previously was a tad on the lazy side. He did live in the northern suburbs as I had bumped into him on a few occasions coming out of the pub and was a really generous bloke with his time.

Top bloke and really gifted player - sort of player who won the game of his own boot a few times. I'll never forget when he tore Sydney a new one running amok & kicking 8 goals from all sorts of angles in a Daicos like display....We could do with someone like him right now!!
