"we're a big club" - supporter obsession

Why would you want to follow a 'big' club anyway?

My mate is AFL member of Carlton and for some big games at the G it's a stress for him to get a ticket.

Another mate goes for North and can turn up ten minutes before the bounce, scan in, grab a prime seat and enjoy.
I agree would be much easier following, North, dogs or Melbourne walk up every week 👍

The whole competition is centred around the Victorian Government backed Melbourne Citadel of Corruption. If you're a big Melbourne club you simply piggy back off that. More promotion, more revenue, more coverage, more bias and all the benefits that flow from that like more sponsorship, ease of attracting players and the like. It's really that simple. In a compromised competition, being a "big" Melbourne club gets things running your way before a ball is kicked.

I support a highly successful club. I’ve seen 12 flags in my lifetime. Beyond that, we may not be the ‘biggest’ club, but we’re perfectly financially stable.

I don’t give a rat’s fat arse about anything beyond that.

I’ve never once understood why the hell it matters.

The two best bands I’ve ever seen live are arguably the biggest stadium act in history (U2), and Jebediah, playing 3 gigs to about 800 people at a uni bar.

My favourite cricket side is a few specks in the Atlantic Ocean. My favourite NRL side is the (equal) oldest in the competition and the richest and third most successful and has always had a decent albeit not necessarily huge fan base.

My afl club has traditionally been right in the middle of the pack in terms of support and finance up until the last decade or so.

I’ve never understood why being part of something with a huge group of people makes it ‘better’
Torquay hotel late last winter, Footscray was on the big screen in the beer garden defeating Melbourne. I had my Bulldogs scarf (started so many conversations that night) and my Jebediah t-shirt. Chris from Jebs watching the footy and a beer. Then Jebs did their thing, as good as any show I’ve ever witnessed including big rock concerts with the worlds best. Have no problems supporting a ‘so-called’ small club, who are still big by world standards, except Friday night hurt us. You are 100% correct that Kev writes awesome melody, both Bob Evans and Jebs music still as fresh as ever because of the timeless melodies.

Countries too.

Some of the best places I've visited extensively are small nations, they are secure in their own skin and have great societies; ie Switzerland, NZ, Scotland

Regarding the AFL.. Its a relic of a bygone era. They dont win stuff any more so 'they announce themselves as a 'big 4 club' and then congratulate themselves for their self proclaimed 'honour'.

I was a kid in the early 90s and my family were all old Blues fans. I was told all the time that the mighty blues were a real cluba and the Hawks were minnows. I can remember being a bit confused by it because the Hawks won all the time.

Same happened for the Swans in the 90's. Plenty of spare seats for me to put up my feet.

Unless it's about the big 4 of heavy metal - Anthrax, Megadeath, Slayer and Metallica

That's only US Thrash Metal. You can do the same with US Death Metal (Death, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Obituary), German Thrash Metal (Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Tankard), Norwegian Black Metal (Mayhem, Immortal, Darkthrone, Emperor, Gorgoroth, early Satyricon, pre-incarceration Burzum, to make it a big 7), Swedish Death Metal (Dismember, Grave, Entombed, Unleashed; Gothenburg trash does not included), etc.

I love the Big 4 until they started removing jumping pillows. I mean, what the **** man?

Insurers are the real fun police here. Should've just added a waiver to the check in documents - nobody reads those back to front anyway.
