AFL Club

'Mally' becomes the first NT player to join us under our newly redefined academy zone. He hails from a small town known as Bulman (approx. population of 300) in central Arnhem Land. His father (presumably Malcolm Rosas Sr) is a Queenslander of South Sea Islander heritage and his mother is an Indigenous Australian from the NT. He is the grandson of WA/NT football royalty Bill Dempsey. Another grandfather of his (Raymond Cummings) was also a notable footballer from the NT.

NT Zone is a potential Suns Gold Mine
Joel Jeffery is another indigenous lad from Darwin who is really exciting recruiters and is available for us to academy pre-select this time next year. His father Russell Jeffrey played in the AFL for St Kilda and the Brisbane Bears. Joel stands 189cm but might have a few centimetres of growth left in him to become a genuine third tall marking forward at the AFL level. His overhead marking ability is considered one of his big strengths.

Does anyone know if the club plans on moving Joel to the GC this year so he can participate in our academy program full time?

Russell Jeffrey was a gun footballer. Tough as nails. If Joel ends up as good as his old man, we have another very good player coming in.

The NT is so underrated. Ask any Victorian and they don't think any good footballers come from anywhere but vic, SA and WA. Up until recently the talent up there really hasn't been supported and overlooked apart from a few clearly gifted players eg. steven may. I hope the suns can be the first step towards a AFL strong hold in NT and possibly a Darwin team someday soon

Don't know if you guys have seen this...great family Mally has around him. :thumbsu:

Really exciting to see what Mally can bring to our team. Already seems to have more speed, skill and tricks than half our list.

Seems like a good kid from a good family. Hopefully he won't let the homesickness get to him.
Looks like we'll get a bumper crowd when he makes his debut judging by the size of his family!

Don't think it's really been spoken about yet but we're getting significantly more from Mally so far this season...

2022 - 0.93 goals per game
2023 - 1.00 goals per game
2024 - 2.33 goals per game

For context, Charlie Cameron kicked 2.27 goals per game last year and finished 5th in the Coleman Medal with 53 goals in the H&A season. That performance earned him AA honours. If Rosas can stay healthy and keep up this pace then he will kick approximately 51 goals for the season. This is the type of small forward we've always wanted and never had.
