Universal Love Welcome to Freo- Josh Treacy

If I am honest, I have never been the biggest Tabs fan, but right now he is definitely the first tall picked picked if fit.

I still think Fyfe will be a multi-positional taller player (Centre Mid to Forward) switching with Jackson as the other multi-positional taller player (Forward to Centre Ruck) when we get going proper.

And by all accounts that leaves 1 other tall forward role within the setup that we like to play.
I am hoping the Jackson/Fyfe set up is based around your suggestion. I just don't see Darcy and Fyfe forward as great.

I honestly think if Fyfe played permanent forward he’d be our most dangerous forward

In a few games Treacy was also struggling to get to the right spots to contest long kicks forward.

This could have been an understanding/spacing thing between he and Lobb.

The kick would come inside 50, Lobb and Treacy would be thereabouts, but the opposition would intercept too easily and it would bounce out the other way.

I’m happy to put the blame on Rory’s slouchy shoulders and see how Cyclone goes as the main target.

I think the key with Treacy is his marking.

His hands were a bit hit and miss last year, but with his other attributes if he is marking the ball he’ll be a star.

If he isn’t, he won’t get a game imo.
He pulled in a couple of really tough contested marks on Friday, including one great pack mark in the third period.

Well seems the Tigers are making Martin a permanent fixture in the forward line, why not ,it's not as if we are short of midfielders

Fyfe is more a KPF compared to Martin, and that is the position he is training in. Purely based on established credentials our tall forwards would be Fyfe, Taberner and Jackson. One of Amiss or Treacy could be included depending on rotations.

I don't mind it. But we're pretty close to being ready for a forward line of Treacy, Amiss, Jackson. That set up also leaves room for a third tall such as Sturt or Corbett, which I like. Fyfe could rotate with Jackson and Darcy including bench time.

I am not really keen on the Fyfe out of the goal square thing. His set shots are just too poor and his ability to compete against a true full back is questionable.

I always go back to the 2021 GWS match where he played as a roaming CHF and was very effective I thought. From half forward he can get up to the wings to be part of transition, bring the ball to ground around the 50m arc and work at stoppages inside 50.

This is the role Fyfe should take. Lobb's role of contested marking around the ground. Decent field kicking too.
Tabs should be the one to work out of the goal square. Treacy around as well.
Jackson/Darcy can be dynamic in that they can rotate up forward or onto the bench.

My initial thoughts on the upcoming season (after losing Lobb and with Taberner seemingly incapable of playing a full season) was that it was a development year for our forward line to fast track Amiss and Treacy (Sturt?) and integrate Jackson and Corbett.

But that hasn't aged well. It's clear we should attack the season as hard as we can. Our lack of forward depth was a mirage that Longmuir laughed away. He has options coming out of his orifices.

Now Amiss and Treacy can get game time as best available when their opportunity or form justifies it. I don't think that will take long and they will be locked in.

I find the Fyfe issues slightly awkward and am very interested to see how they play out. Playing him either middle or forward reduces development opportunities by definition.

I'm in the camp that sees a rotation with Jackson as having huge potential, although I can't quite see how that works with Darcy and Brodie, both of whom have less ability in their non preferred positions. But for an opposition having to cope with Jackson and Fyfe rotating through on ball and the forward line would be fun to watch.

Adelaide Crows were top of the ladder with the best forward line in 2017.
Sure they lost the GF but that was due to the engine room.
We don’t have that problem.
Even in 2013 the Hawks played Franklin, Roughead, Hale, and Gunston.
We won the midfield but lost it with a lack of accuracy and firepower forward.

What do you mean we won the midfield? I distinctly recall Mitchell playing that brilliant decoy role against Crowls. Tactical genius from Clarko 🙄

My buddy is finally getting the chance he deserves at AFL level. My biggest concern with JT is that he is somewhat easily pushed off the ball and sometimes struggles to get seperation from his defender. Good signs so I hope he backs up his performance against the cats this round!

Same here. Treacy's strong marking last week and pretty sound disposal were great to see. Only disappointments were his occasional swan dives after being (seemingly) rather readily downed by his opponent.

The Cats are generally harder, more experienced and probably heavier than Freo. I want Treacy to stand up with an all-round game that'll make him undroppable - and help us to a win!

The departure of Lobb is the best thing that could’ve happened for our forwardline and for Treacy. We weren’t winning a flag with Lobb and he was just holding our young KPF’s out of the side. Treacy needs a lot of time and experience at the level to develop but he has all the tools to be an outstanding KPF. We just need to ride out the bumps with him.

As someone who allegedly was against the Jackson trade, he is significantly more effective than advertised there and I suspect will outperform Lobb as a forward by the end of next year anyway.

I couldn’t agree more. I was absolutely delighted to see the back of Lobb. One of the best off season moves we have ever made getting rid of him.

He just needs to half contests. Jackson needs to take Ratogulea. It’ll be a tough game for the youngsters. Stewart always mops up across the backline

Have been waiting to hear this
Bit my tongue the last few weeks Joao 😁
