Young draftees typically don’t get many senior opportunities in their first year under the Fly regime. Unless they’re a freak like Nick Daicos.

It's hard to say. Other than Daicos he hasn't had the kids to play.

None of the other year 1 kids he's been given have been close to the mark in year 1:

Murley, Draper, Harrison, Allan, Ryan, HDM, Jiath, Richards.

The not playing the kids narrative has been built up around Finn and Reef, but when they've had their chances it's been pretty easy to see why he hasn't played them much.

Meanwhile he locked a couple of kids: Ginni and McCreery into the team at the beginning of 2022.

So far it looks to me that the kids not playing much has been about the kids rather than Fly.

It’s hard to say whether it is the kids or not. We’ve had plenty of kids under all coaches who haven’t made it. And all young players will be inconsistent. But it seems players like Sier, Wills, Tyler Brown, Broomhead, and Crocker were getting more senior opportunities than players like Macrae, McInnis, Allan (to date, 2 games in 2 years, but no doubt going forward he’ll get more) and Richards.

Players like Bianco, Poulter, Randall and T.Brown got decent opportunities under the previous regime that dried up when Fly took over.

Even Macrae played as many games in his first year under Buckley / Harvey as he played in his fourth year under Fly.

This is not a criticism of anybody all, just an observation.

Out of all the stupid and ridiculous over the top reactions I've seen over the past two days this is by far my favourite.

It's raw and you can tell by his reaction, all his hard work has paid off. The family have clearly been on the journey alongside him and I'm sure they have had to sacrifice a lot. I like that it was only the family in the home and not the 50 other stupid mates.

Go well young fella!
Didn’t get with one pillow - didn’t want it bad enough…

I don't see a big difference.

That 2021 group of games were an anomaly. We'd cut all our depth for salary cap, had injuries and the season was a write off pretty early in the year. We had a similar number of games for newbies this year due to injuries

Sier didn't debut until mid way through his third year. Wills was a mature recruit who played a few games a bit like Long and Sullivan

But agree that Bucks was more prone to choosing a not ready guy and giving them a lot of chances like Tyler and Crocker - the block of games theory that posters wanted Macrae and Reef to get.

Welcome Will 👍

180cm, lightly framed… but quick and agile

I’d write him off but he reportedly moves well and works hard

And we’ve seen the similarly sized and initially unfancied Noble play decent football at the pies
That's probably an understatement about JFN, he has played scintillating attack from half back footy for us, couple of wonderful goals running through chf at full tilt.

Gonna miss him and reckon Johnny is heavily underrated, happy with the Houston upgrade though.

Heavily underrated.

It is such a shame that he missed the spot in the finals and Markov took it from him. I never rated Markov (certainly not in comparison to Noble), but even those who think he was a better choice for that finals series would acknowledge that it was only for maybe that 6 week period that we was better. All games prior, and all games since, JFN has been the far superior player.

Leppitsch called him "Willie Hayes" in an interview yesterday, so in grand Collingwood tradition he's probably going to have to be ironically known as "Big Willie".
Willie to Cox (or the other way around).
