i followed the power a bit last year..but havn't seen a game yet this year..
How many of these power players will make the side...the team is in a bit of form at the moment...who have been the backbones in the side...key position players? Creative midfielders? who might have a crack at the country side

I have seen a couple of games power have played this year. There isnt alot of stand out very even across the board. But players like Michaelides and Hall are classy, Bristow is ver good but Todd didn't get asked which is a big suprise. He plays well week in week out.

Have mainly been to watch Metro sides this year, being a mug punter I'm not dedicated enough to make the country treks :)

Have also seen a couple of Gippy games, agree Todd is a solid lad and good at winning the contested ball, but maybe doesn't quite have enough tricks? Having said that I would have thought he might get a guernsey as he is a workhorse and gets to a lot of contests. To hazard a guess I would say McKenna, Connelly, Hall and Heyne would be a chance to make the final squad. IIRC Heyne isn't eligible for this draft but will be one to watch next year.

Gday im from the same area as these power boys and have played with and against many of them.
Toddy is a ball magnet very muscular but his kicking skill is a limitation but is ever improving. Knows where the ball is going to be and has always been a leader. Very unlucky to miss out in best nearly every week. From sale but nothing like 'dipper' (pendlebury) or jason gram.

James Bristow or better known around here as 'chucker' is a tall mobile red nut. Gentle giant but can get very angry. Plays key roles as either CHB CHF or ruck outlining his versitility. Also a victorian u16 squad member for cricket.

Nick Heyne is only 16 turning 17 this year and is already there in terms of size. 6 foot 1 or 2 and 84kg will keep improving natural left footer.

Blaser is short and combative also a good cricketer height might limit his draft potential. Have not seen him play.
Can not report on the others however im watching powers games in the coming weeks....

I don't think Kangars will play, but Kane Smith from Falcons will probably get a run.

First a caveat, I haven't seen as much of the country sides as the metro sides this year, but based on today and what I have seen this is the side I would select:

B: Stevens Donaldson Hobbs
HB: Hall Henderson Selwood
C: Heyne Hockey Normington
HF: Gaylor Tarrant Dangerfield
F: McKenna McEvoy Taylor

Foll: Simpson Austin Ford

INT: Hinkley Curnow Lynch Connelly

EMG: Suban Donohue Thoolan

I Have seen Pioneers Vs Ballarat, Geelong and Gippsland and read reports and stats on the other games and thats what i base my opinion on. Thoolen will be a definate starter for vic country. Gaylor has no chance. Tarrant has struggled lately but will probably make the team. Donaldson was for me along with Thoolen clearly the best 2 for pioneers against geelong and wasnt named in the best, and against oakleigh had impressive stats but wasn't in the best. Likewise Selwood played well against Geelong being the leading possesion getter for pioneers and didnt get named in the best. I hope for there sake vic country selectors take no notice of who is named in the best. Also i think Ford will struggle to make it, he is a onballer and i dont think he can play a flank or a poket as effective as others in the squad and i dont think he is in the best 4 or 5 onballers in the squad. Im super impressed with Austin i cant help think of Adam Yze when ever i see him play i suspect he will go first round for sure.

Any Thoughts?

I've seen Thoolan twice and thought he was solid, but to be honest I was paying him much attention. Herein lies the problem for mug punters like me. Go along to odd games, focus on a few guys, and despite being interested in the draft process as a whole, I show particular interest in those that might suit Carlton. Carlton have enough KPP's on their list, so if we draft another I hope they are elite. So games like that I watch a few kids and the others I dont' pay much attention to. Ask me my thoughts on some of the Calder or Dandy kids and I will write a one page summary. I went to Calder v Dandy last weekend and watched a few in particular, ended up writing 6 pages of notes. Hence my caveat about taking my Vic Country side with a grain of salt.

I think it is harsh to say Gaylor has no chance of making it. Saw the Vic Country trial game and he was very impressive. Quick strong, small forward who was fast on the lead and is good overhead. Did very well in that game. He mightn't have iumpressed in the TAC games you saw, but sometimes kids can step up a level when required. From the trial game I would have said he was a monty for a HFF. Agree with you on Ford. Tarrant is another monty I would have thought.

i don't think the selectors are gunna take much notice of this...... it is stats and figures that they look at. and these selectors would get tapes. I see O'Keefe kicked 8 vs the Pioneers on the w/e.. is he vic country? if not could he get added? and how did Donohue & lynch go?

To be honest i didn't even know O"keefe had kicked 8, as bad as that sounds although he kicked 8 he wasn't in my best 3 or 4 on the ground and im not sure if he is in the Vic squad in other threads they have lists of whos in it i think.

Donohue is a huge talent, didn't dominate on the weekend but when he did get the ball he used it and seems to be a certain starter for vic country.

Lynch didnt do much, has been one of the most improved players in the comp though.

Rex Taylor from pios has been in the best a few times this year. How likely is he to make the team. Plays his best footy on the wing, very quick, flashy and skillfull. If he does make the team he should play on the wing and not forward pocket
