Following all of about 5 seconds of Googling, Tedros was negotiating for the release of UN staff who are being held as hostages by the Houthi, ceasing of the targeting of aid workers, and to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Sounds like a reasonable thing for the Head of the World Health Organization to be doing, but then my brain isn't sautéed.

Thank you for providing yet another wonderful example of how demented this cult has become.

They only say cut ties with WHO because Trump said it. Everything they say is because Trump or one of the cult leaders say it. Must be good if they do. Yet its a hilarious double standard they wont back this sort of politics in Australia. Only have to read the Aus thread for the hypocrisy. Its almost as if they like watching from a distance because its a laugh. Shows what sort of character they are.

Watching the aftermath and the stories from pro Trump immigrants was that they literally bought into the false narrative that Trump is only talking about illegal immigration. This is the problem with ignorance. A sad fact of life is many people are politically ignorant and merely go on hearsay as to who they will vote for. Add the added equation of cost of living and of course misogyny it became the perfect storm for ignorant immigrant voters.
I've seen this phenomenon first hand from an Indian bloke I worked with. He told me we shouldn't let Indians immigrate here because they're all bums. He probably thinks it doesn't apply to him because he's got money, speaks the language, is educated and has a decent job etc. It never occurred to him that racists would just argue there is no reason we shouldn't educate a white Australian to do his job.

I was glad he left the business before the Aussie cricket team got embroiled in that cheating scandal though. Never would have heard the end of it.

These seem reasonable and rational comments by conservative ex-PM Howard.

Interested in the Trumpies views - words not laughing emojis - if they have the capacity.

Now, former Prime Minister Mr Howard has come out swinging against any tariffs on Aussie goods headed to the US. In an interview with The Australian, he said Mr Trump’s tariff proposals were “ridiculous” and “crazy” and said they would damage the international economy.

“ I am concerned to put it mildly, very concerned, about Trump’s talk about tariffs,” Mr Howard said. “Trade has delivered millions of people out of poverty. Unilaterally imposing tariffs of that order of magnitude on countries willy-nilly is just bad for world trade and it’s bad for the world economy.

Hopefully the proposed 20% tariffs don't eventuate. You just don't know with Trump what he actually does v bluster.

No idea why he is trying to start a trade war with 25% tariffs with neighbours Canada. Just bizzare & insulting to suggest they should just be another state of America.

My main issue which we found out during covid is we need our own capacity to produce essential items & not rely on imports. Should be serious consideration to support local manufacturing we think should be essential.

It's all bluster. Markets would be selling off way harder if it wasn't. There will be tarrifs, just not anything approaching what he was threatening. We're already seeing from all the recent stuff about H-1B visas that the capital is what is really running the show. Trump will spend the next 4 years mostly playing golf while what's left of his brain turns into oatmeal.

Agreed. Losing manufacturing capacity and “know how” is a big issue and covers so many areas like critical drugs, even refined oil. As a country we have been stupid allowing this to be totally, or substantially, outsourced to foreign countries. Many that are ultimately not our “friends”.

And with Trump, everyone knows he is full of it. Full of absolute crap. Let’s see how many election promises and threats ultimately make it eg all of these threatened tariffs - wasn’t Chinas supposed to be 60% as per election threats?, his “one nasty day” of illegal immigrants being rounded up, his stopping the Ukraine war “day one”. The one “sure thing” is tax cuts for the rich blowing out the budget by many $T’s

I can’t remember a US President with a lower IQ. When I was young perhaps with Reagan maybe but at least he was principled and had charisma. Trump - I just don’t get how almost everyone doesn’t find him to be a disgusting individual on so many levels. And that was before he even entered politics. He is NOT a successful guy as he likes to purport. He has had so many failures that it ain’t funny and his wealth would have been higher investing the US400m inheritance in an average index hugging share fund or ETF rather than all his historic crazy, mostly failing, business ideas.

OK thanks for input Bicks. Please understand you may be of a different generation to others (inc myself) and I can barely remember Reagan so obviously have no recollection of Carter

PS who is (1) smarter and (2) a better President out of Reagan and Trump in your view?

We actually don’t know a lot about Reagan given we didn’t have social media/internet back then. We only got snippets.

And how disrespectful of Carter by Bicks, Reagan was a B Grade actor which term Reaganomics with the idea of trickle down economics, which has proven to be an utter failure given wealth distribution has never been greater.

Carter has proven to do a great deal more since his Presidency (more than what Reagan ever did) and even Trump offering kind words.

Carter had to deal with the inflation, post oil crisis and of course Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan and the hostage crisis in Iran.

Reagan saw the deficits and % of GDP increase significantly. Hardly inspirational and likely the grounds for the great world recession of 1990/1991.

Eagleboy2011 no response, just a laugh react? To be fair, if I was dim enough to be catfished by every unfounded conspiracy that popped into my social media feed without hesitating or bothering to check even one corroborating source, I'd be laughing at myself too.

I just can't stop laughing you using the BBC as a reliable source considering their recent ME reporting bias.

Dow Jones, SP500 and Russell2000 are barely up since President-elect won the election on November 5th.

The jury, ie financial markets, is obviously still out on the impacts of his election.

An interesting 2025 ahead.
Luckily the Biden criminal regime is coming to an end fortunately. Things will change for the better when the GOAT is there in place.
Happy Donald Trump GIF by Team Trump

You know in high school there is the one loud mouth bully with his two idiot friends and everything they say makes you feel stupider for even listening to it. Thats the US Election thread in a nutshell.
As compared to this load of crap by the usual lefty suspects on this thread.

im in the middle. neither left nor right. not being indoctrined into loving everything Trump says doesnt make me left. It makes me sane and intelligent.

The funniest thing is the goose who laughed at this post. Dont even have to say more. Whats worse is they think they are winning. What a sad individual
