This.

Im also not a hater, I just want our side to dominate, with no weaknesses in any position. And this is an area we can improve in.

Imo Will has only retained his first 22 position in recent years due to lack of depth… which we now have. Evidenced by his average stats and BnF results.

And I’m sure the hope was for someone like T Brown to force players like this out of the side by now… but his skills and smarts just didn’t progress enough.

Someone like Holmes from Geelong was already a better player than Will in his second season, in the same position. And we need to find / develop / introduce the same type of player.

Yep, he runs all day and is quick and a reliable kick, plus a good mark.

But… what good is running all day if you don’t get the pill OR apply high levels of defensive pressure?  Unless his job is to play decoy the whole game. Which I’m sure it isn’t.

That, I’m afraid, is a low impact player. And i guarantee he’ll still only get 15 touches when he goes back to VFL, for people to only then realise that the excuses don’t hold up.

No player is soft, that is true, but there are varying levels of hardness, and Will is towards the bottom. He lacks confidence (handpass in goal square, drops marks) and just can’t stick tackles, or apply physical pressure, so doesn’t make us a stronger or high pressure team. And pressure is what’s it’s all about in the big games…

Love it when he takes a mark and kicks a classy goal, but I love the broad amount of skills that Carmy brings to the table, and the pressure / impact of McCreery even more. And even the potential of Richards and Harrison in the short term… think they will surprise white a few this year and demand selection
