This is interesting although I’d suggest perhaps clubs see it differently after they use their own matrix to rate potential draftees?'top 8 or so players in draft could be considered number one players such is evenness of this draft.'- trade radio.
This is why we should trade out pick 1 for 2 other picks.
I guess you mean Dodo and SOS.We have the picks so we need to be wary of oppos with gold chains and Old Spice sleazy cologne on lol.
Agree with your post, certainly is possible the club made a mistake, but equally possible maybe they have identified a better prospect in the draft?Very sarcastic and facetious post.
Whatever the reasoning was for them not to take him is honestly irrelevant.
It actually pains me that people will defend the club at every turn. Everyone makes mistakes, it's a fact of life and this was a mistake.
- We had a free hit at him.
- He would have been on a six month deal on minimum chips
- We could have exposed him to a professional environment for six months.
- Even if he had other commitments such as uni there's still no reason not to sign him so he knows he is valued by us.
- If we signed him we would have first refusal on him at the end of this year so we could extend him without having to gamble on the draft.
Any ideas why? Left hang to dry etc?We should be all over Carroll from the blues good young player we should be targeting been left hanged to dry.
They could have delisted him at the end of the year. They're typically on six month contracts or simply just delisted someone else. I'd rather Davidson over Cumberland, Colina and Dow for starters.Agree with your post, certainly is possible the club made a mistake, but equally possible maybe they have identified a better prospect in the draft?
We aint trading pick 1, dont add oxygen to that buffoons post.
This isn't a shot at you just using your post to reply to the topic.Poor list management*
If we needed the extra list spot we could have just delisted him at the end of the year if it didn't work out or delisted an extra poor performing player on the list.
There was literally zero excuse to not take him. We could have shifted any one of the 5 players with an ACL to the long term injury list.
Don't make excuses for the club. They went into the MSD with three picks. Took two players and are now tempting fate and gambling we can still take him with a late pick in the national draft. It may well work out fine, but there was zero reason to risk it. Zero.
But no other club took him either!!! That surely tells you something, or is it just blame the club that we didn’t select a player that supporters like, not the staff actually paid to watch these players? You’d think we’d passed on Harley Reid the way some people are talking about this kid. He may be decent but I’ll let the experts make the call on behalf of the clubPoor list management*

I reckon it's salary issues and there midfield is stocked.Any ideas why? Left hang to dry etc?
No one is drafting a player thinking we can just delist him in 6 months. Outside of maybe a mature age ruck for a contender everyone is trying to draft a long term piece. They could have delisted him at the end of the year. I could understand if they got him for nothing cos theyre a minnow club that cant ever attract talent but they have to farrken trade for the campaignerSaints are ****ed. Them and Essendon always seem to be looking for the easy way out rather than rebuilding properly. Doomed to be mid-table forever.
louie camporealeProduction wise Ben has been better. Bigger body inside mid. Scrappy though. Won award for best under 18.
Lucas more outside wing/half back. Think he's more likely to make it tbh.
Ben probably goes 35-50 & Lucas 45+
Yeah but don't say 'piece'. That's w***er lingo. No one is drafting a player thinking we can just delist him in 6 months. Outside of maybe a mature age ruck for a contender everyone is trying to draft a long term piece.
Also Davidson played one really good game prior to MSD and it was only a few days before. He got better after the draft.
So nothing on him as a player? I really don’t know anything about him, you?I reckon it's salary issues and there midfield is stocked.
That's why I use itYeah but don't say 'piece'. That's w***er lingo.
Need draft radio as well while we are on the bottomtrade radio should be 24/7 365 days
Can you please do this every day? I’m far too busy to listen and take notesJust listened to trade radio (I know), they were speaking very fast. Pretty much everything we already know was covered.
Positives
- indicated picks 9, 10 & 17 would likely be on the table for Baker/Bolton
- indicated West Coast were also in the conversation for both players
- indicated pick 6 would be a starting point for Rioli
- top 8 or so players in draft could be considered number one players such is evenness of this draft.
- Damo doesn’t think St Kilda should get band 1 compo
Negatives
- Damo
- Dusty going to GC for less than 400k a year.
- Geelong likely to push Bailey Smith to the end trade week so it can be all about them and they want to only pay their shitty first this year.
That's this thread I thinktrade radio should be 24/7 365 days
Agree, the only rationale in opting to not take him is available list spots but even still that wears pretty thin. At that time there was already noise around Rioli, Bolton and Baker. Martin looked likely to finish up, so too Naismith, and Dow, Coulthard, Cumberland, Graham were all more likely to not be renewed than be renewed. Mcintosh and Pickett were 50/50 but you'd probably be prioritising Davidson if it came down to it given age. Get him on the list then reassess in 6 months when is already tied to the clubWell we did overlook Durham, who did a couple of preseasons with us. Sure he popped higher but nobody would’ve known more about him than us?
It’s a tough game & lots of 20/20 hindsight, and for all we know their assessment may be spot on - they’d certainly have more info - but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to wonder why an emerging (and now decorated) player, already in our program, was overlooked when he was basically there for free.
Yes true, there's also the possibility that the player you pick at 1 would be still available at pick 6.This is interesting although I’d suggest perhaps clubs see it differently after they use their own matrix to rate potential draftees?

There was a reason. Can't remember who the poster was but it did make sense at the time.Poor list management*
