Top 10 Players Since 2000

1. Franklin
2. Judd
3. Ablett jnr
4. Scarlett
5. Hodge
6. Danger
7. Pavlich
8. Cox
9. Martin
10. Riewoldt

Buddy number 1 simply cause kicking 1000 goals and even kicking 100 in one year is incredible considering he played in an era of flooding, zoning, defensive tactics, forwards having to play more up field.

Judd number 2 cause he was an absolute jet from day 1 and till basically the end of his career. I remember he was getting compared to Coleman (98 games) for the greatest first 100 games we'd ever seen.

Scarlett best full back/kpb I've seen.

Martin was great, but I just don't reckon for long enough. He was sensational between 2016-2020, but his first 6 years was more good rather than great. His kicking early days was pretty wasteful. Always wish he'd share what he did to improve it so dramatically.

Cox and Gawn really the only ruckman I've rated to be top class in the last 20 years. Cox wins out just.

He's not even the Tiggers greatest finals player that award goes to KB

well at least you did not say that GAJ or Danger where better finals players, so there is that

And KB ? Not sure he played since 2000,

But in any case thanks for the bump from a month ago, but with a month to prepare I would have hoped for better.

Controversial call here but on sheer talent Daniel Motlop has gotta be in with a shout. Bloke kicked some absolute freak goals. Check out this video and you'll see what I'm talking about

On the question of top 10, I'd probably go something like this

1. Lance Franklin (better known as 'Buddy')
2. Gary Ablett, Jr. A sublime little nugget that exuded genius.
3. Marcus Bontempelli. Severely underrated imo. Still has years left but is consistently as brilliant as there's ever been.
4. Chris's Judd. Lost his hair but didn't lose his quality. Bloody good player in his day.
5. Dustin Martin. Reached the lofty peaks as high as anyone has but I don't think he's had the longevity and consistency of those above. Probably the greatest finals player though.
6. Michael Voss. Brother of Brett Voss, as tough as nails and natural born leader.
7. CHF. It's unfair to put any of these players ahead of another, I feel like they all held at some point the title of best CHF in the league. N. Riewoldt, Brown, Tredrea, Pavlich.
8. Matthew Scarlett. Had to fit a defender in here somewhere on principle. He was as good as any I reckon.
9. Robbie Gray. Controversial call but he was hugely underrated outside of Port Adelaide. As good as anyone on his day.
10. Daniel Motlop. Picked this bloke on talent alone. Check out this video and you'll see some of the magic he was able to produce.

Dusty's peak (2017) was probably higher than anybody else in the modern era. His performances in big matches speak for themselves.

If I was picking a player for a single Grand Final, Dusty would probably be the player I would pick.

However, if I was building a side for long term success, I would take the consistency and longevity of GAJ and Judd, and the irreplaceable Franklin over Dusty.

If picking for a Grand Final, surely its Jack Gunston - with 12 goals across 4 Grand Finals...

Id go:
Buddy
Judd
GAJ
Dusty
Voss
S Mitchell
Goodes
Fyfe

After this I wouldnt know how to sort:
Enright
S Johnson
Rough
Both Riewaldts
Aker
Black
Cripps
Scarlett
Buckley
Pav
Cox
Danger
Bartel
Hodge
Lake
Neale
Swan
Pendles
S Burgoyne
Lloyd
Rance
Bont
Cyril

And Im sure many, many more could be in the 10 to 30 range and opinions would differ on any given day.

Interesting with S Mitchell. He’s always an odd one with rating. I see him either really high like with you or really low like saying he’s one of the worst Brownlow medal winners ever. Not sure why that’s the case it’s pretty strange.

So far there's only 2 players in the VFL/AFL to play 300+ games, play in a Premiership and win a Brownlow medal: Jimmy Bartel and Simon Black. Soon it will be 3 players, Dusty will join them.

Sam Mitchell? Patrick Dangerfield? Mark Ricciuto? Adam Goodes?

or was the above meant to include the Norm Smith as well? If so, Mitchell was pretty unlucky, given he was runner up in the Norm Smith twice (with performances that would have won it most other years).

Are you sure you're not confusing him with Tom Mitchell? No way anyone thinks he's one of the worst Brownlow winners of all time - he has the 3rd most Brownlow votes in history FFS (and was very unlucky not to go back to back).

Over 200 Brownlow votes. Id rate him highly because he was a phenomenal player. For a very long time.

I'm obviously biased, but I think there is a lot of Vic centralism on this call. I'd say Tredrea with 4x AA (01,02,03,04) and being a premiership captain adds weight to his legacy. As well as being an AFL Coaches association award winner.

For the record, I don't think Tredders is 4th best player since 2000, but I don't think Riewoldt is either. And if Riewoldt is in the conversation, then Tredders should be too.

Tredrea and J Brown both better players than Roo.

Great list. I wonder if Dangerfield deserves to be in the top 10 and if so, at whose expense? Simon Black? I did a comparison and it's amazing how close they are/were:

I have no problem seeing Dangerfield between 7-10 on any list in this thread to be honest. The stats don't show his speed either.

1. Franklin
2. Judd
3. Buckley
4. Hodge
5. Ablett
6. Cousins
7. Cripps
8. Bont
9. Curnow
10. J McGovern
Lost me when you inserted McGovern at No.10. I doubt he would be top 50.

And, 4 Carlton players in your top 10?
