So TDK has played 82 games for Carlton (incl. the 4 games this year) .... with 19 games left in the season he needs to play at least 18 to get to 100 games.

So if he misses 2 of those 19 and leaves the Blues as a free agent at the end of the year .... then the Blues miss him being F&S eligible

Double whammy if he leaves and Carlton miss out on qualifying him for F&S considering football ability seems to run in the family.

Matt Maguire ended up 1 short of 100 games for the Saints ... played 99 .... and another 71 with Brisbane

He ended up marrying Sophie Ball .... Luke Ball's sister (very good football family) ..... pretty sure they have kids now .... either way they won't be eligible as FS or FD to the Saints.

Maybe TDK gets to 100 games for Carlton .... then again maybe not .... would be nice to have it up your sleeve at least

Is this what Saints fans are getting their rocks off to now? Pinching a F/S prospect that doesn't actually exist? For all we know TDK will be a single bachelor forever and never settle down

Think it's more you losing one ... than us pinching one

19 games to go .... good luck against West Coast :thumbsu:

Then he plays 100 games and Blues likely blow out their cap space

Why would we blow up our cap space? The offer is there for him Salary Cap has gone from $15.8m to $17.7m this year.

You can have 8-10 $750k-$1.2m players on your list - almost half our list will always be under 23s. 2nd and 3rd picks get $130k per year. We have 12 of them under 23 and below 10 games.

I'd be happy giving up about 1.3 mil a year for him, 1.7 is a bit crazy as it has been reported. If they change ruck rules it could completely shift his value (eg. Reeves and Meek at Hawthorn).

There's some risk to it. But overall would be very keen to get him in.
He'd be a great player to land. He's an 'enthuser' like Marshall. And even when he's getting beaten, like against Nank, he keeps fighting to the end to have an impact.
Could be anything in a decent team.

Mate, it's common knowledge the Blues cap is tighter than a ducks arse.

Carlton fans are discussing trading away top line players to keep TDK.

Kennedy and Owies last year.

Not sure who it would be this year.
Don’t forget Jack Carroll, Paddy Dow and Liam Stocker and Will Setterfield from years gone by.

As for Carlton fans discussing trading away top line player, don’t read to much into that. If you spend enough time on the Carlton page you’ll notice it only takes one missed handball for some people to want to burn the place to the ground and rebuild.

As for cap space, without genuine knowledge of the tightness of a duck or The Duck’s arse, I’m not entirely sure how to respond.

As I believe a Fremantle supporter suggested earlier on this thread, with the way the system works, every team is always one high paid player away from having little to no cap space.
Spending floors and carry over credits only get you so far. You can front load a few contract, or backend some. But the net result is almost always one of two things. A player gets past his front ended years then starts to think, maybe I should look at a trade. Or a player is push back and push back and then a club ends up either paying him 1.5mil to play in the twos a 31 (Nick Haynes) or giving him away and paying half of his wage for him him to play at another club (Grundy, Treloar).
Money can always be moved around in yearly contract payments to find space for most things. But as for Carlton, it’s not so much that their cap is bursting, it’s that its player spend is to imbalance.

The fact that the club has tabled its largest ever offer would suggest the cap isn’t about to burst, it’s more the awareness that placing 10% of the cap spend into a single player, especially a player that plays a unique position and a position that hasn’t in the last 20 years shown to be a crucial position judging by the recent premiership teams is not going to be beneficially for Carlton’s, especially given its current list imbalances. They’ve set a max figure, and they are sticking to it.

Finally, people have really got to stop reading so much into the whole increase in total salary cap meaning all clubs are about to acquire a whole heap of money. There isn’t a player agent in the world that wouldn’t include a contractual clause in their players contract that sees their wage increase by at least the same % as the cap increase each year.

Honestly, I think it would be the best combo in the modern era.
Gawn & Jackson would have been tantalising but Marshall + De Koning would take it to another level.
Agree all these people saying you don’t need an elite ruckman to win premiership’s , that might have been the case for some clubs but they fail to mention that these clubs did all have elite midfields that could cover them having average rucks at st kilda we don’t, bringing in tdk will actually give us a large advantage over pretty much every other club at least in one aspect of the game

It's as if you Sainters have never actually watched a Carlton game or just recently discovering that TDK plays AFL. What large advantage will TDK provide to the Saints with their bog ordinary midfield?

I don't believe those other guys were cemented into your best 22.

Kennedy was top 10 in the best and fairest and Owies was your best small forward. Both easily best 22 players.

Agree completely with your last paragraph, which is why fans can't expect a rise in salary cap is going to help a great deal with loosening the squeeze.

I watch the first half of every Carlton game and the midfield absolutely rock with the service they get from TDK.

Think that might be more to do with the midfielders at his feet given they've done the same working with Pittonet, McKay, Silvagni and even Lewis Young in the ruck.
