Jake Watson, the nephew of Essendon legend Tim Watson, has died after collapsing during an SANFL under-19 match yesterday.

The 17-year-old, who is the son of former Essendon and West Adelaide player Larry Watson, collided with another player during a clash between West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.

He failed to respond to about 20 minutes of emergency treatment by paramedics and was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he was placed on life-support.

A hospital spokesman confirmed Jake died late last night after spending the evening on life support with his parents by his side.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Watson family :(

Terrible news, loss of young life is always tragic and especially under the circumstances playing a game of footy, geez.

Condolences to the parents and the entire Watson family, the club and friends of the boy.

Very very sad news.
:(

"Eyewitnesses said Jake had been running in the same direction as two Eagles (Woodville West Torrens) players when he collided with one in a routine incident which occurs in football at least a dozen times each quarter".

A terribly sad event and condolences to family and friends.

Condolences to the entire Watson family, and sympathies to Jake's greater family, the West Adelaide Footy Club.

Today's paper showed Jake's team-mates in a bonding session, encircling the spot on the oval where he went down, was a moving photograph to see
