Hi all,

Tonight we will reveal the All-SFA team for Season 38. The All-SFA has long been an award used to honour the best performers of the season across the board in both Qooty and posting contributions. It is an award selected by a rigorous nomination process where 13 of the finest minds in the league as representatives of their clubs engage in robust debate in regards to who makes the best quality posts that enhance the experience of all in the league, and balances it with a consideration of who has performed well on the Qooty field in their respective positions. This is a prestigious honour, and to be selected in the All-SFA team means you are truly among the elite of the league.

We will also be making two new inductions into the Hall Of Fame. There is only one level higher that this in the Sweet FA (the Immortals) and to join this group involves contribution both onfield and off-field above and beyond most and over a sustained time frame. This induction is voted on by the existing members of the Hall Of Fame. To join the Hall Of Fame is to become an all time legend of the game and I personally believe here is no higher honour than to be acknowledged by actual gods.

We will kick off the presentation around 7.45pm tonight and fingers crossed this will be a little quicker than the Mobbs Medal this week.

After the heartbreak of the season 19 grand final, new Coney Island Warriors captain BigJoeD_ looked to build on the work of inaugural captain Frankston Rover by further strengthening an already formidable squad. Joe & Frankie brought in five rookies including club stalwarts Packedlunch & Morganashlee along with Mr Blicavs & Yidaki. The other was a person who would literally become a Warrior Princess who went by the name of Wooshette.

Wooshette, or Wosh as she would eventually be known as, took to the SFA like the proverbial duck to water both on and off the field. On field she topped the Warriors goalkicking list to pick up an award that would later bear her name enroute to a maiden All-SFA selection, while off field she not only won the first of three Pwned Trophies but became the first Coney Islander to win the EKA Medal for best rookie, beating out the likes of Kennedy Parker Van_Dyke craffles and future Warrior Freofalcon.

She then backed this up in her sophomore season by taking out the club best & fairest to go with a second All-SFA nod, and by the third season was elevated to club captain, a post she would hold for four of the next six seasons in what was one of the most active. Match threads commonly had over 20 marauding Warriors, a further two All-SFA blazers were added to the wardrobe including the vice captaincy in season 26, a season in which she became the inaugural Life Member of the Coney Island Warriors. She also started spreading her wings across the league, both with the beginning of a long career in match posting and with her Woosh Magazine series of media but also in the form of forum moderating which she is still heavily involved with. You want a badge? She’s your gal! And she kept bringing the rookies in, most notably a young Ross Lyon cub who she handed the keys to Van Cortland Park over to in season 28. But we’ll get to that later.

The winds of change came in season 30, first with a gap year and then a switch to the BJO to help revitalise a Roys outfit, providing an environment which would entice the likes of Zevon, Aristotle Pickett, hotchilli & tigs2010 to join the league. She would not only take out her second best & fairest award at the Roys and earn a fifth All-SFA selection but, as part of the dominant #WOS#WOSHMOBBSDINGkline, would taste the ultimate team success as the Gorillas took out the season 33 SFA premiership. Her forum administrating continued during this time, which not only included door keeping and standard setting but also supporting SFA admins and Committees alike.

Feeling her work was done at the Roys Wosh made a third move in season 35, this time swapping Roys maroon for Mount Buller red & blue, and again reinvigorated a team that is now one of the most active and fun in the SFA. She led the goalkicking for the Demons in her first two seasons before being adjudged the best defended in her third, as well as picking up a sixth All-SFA selection in season 37. She oversaw yet more recruitment to the league, this time helping to bring rising stars of the league such as Gralin, Scythe94 & p4p1 to Mount Buller among a host of others to the SFA via initiatives such as the tour match on the General Discussion board which doubled as a fundraiser for the Sikh Volunteers Association which raised over $2000, along with an exhibition Werewolf game on the GD board.

She has made significant contributions to three different clubs, she has been a long time forum administrator and match poster, she has assisted admins and Committees and captains, she is both active herself and entices activity out of others, she has advocated for the SFA throughout the whole of BigFooty, she bakes cakes and gives badges and laughs at teammates’ warts, and as of today Wosh becomes the 37th inductee into the Sweet FA Hall of Fame. Please charge your glasses and join me in wishing Wooshette/Wooshy/Wowsh/Wosh the heartiest of congratulations for what is one of the greatest honours in the Sweet FA.

I’ve been a bit lucky to have a chance to read the testimonials for tonight and I don’t want to be an echo chamber so I’ll try to be a bit more personal with both of our inductees tonight. Wosh is just great. There it is. I respect her opinions about the Sweet FA perhaps more than anyone else’s, she believes in the sanctity of this place as much as I do and to be honest the downside of my run for admin this time (shush, there’s only one) is it led to her withdrawing her interest. She is admin standard and she hasn’t faltered here for her entire time in the Sweet FA. She’s not afraid to say if her thoughts differ to mine and while I probably pretend I ignore it the truth is she gives food for thought on everything (just not food for me as I await these promised pickled eggs). I will say similar about the next inductee as well but this place does not exist without people like Wosh and she wholeheartedly deserves her place in the upper echelon, the Hall Of Fame. Maybe I’ll get her to admin that, she can be an upstart again.

Expressing just how remarkable Wosh is and her profound impact on the Sweet Football Association is no easy feat. Wosh made her debut back in Season 20. To my great fortune and that of anyone else who has been active during her career, I have had the privilege of witnessing her entire Sweet Football Association career and, more recently, of being her teammate at the Mount Buller Demons. Her Season 20 EKA award victory indicated that Wosh would become a major pillar of our community.

Few individuals can entrench themselves as the face of three separate clubs over a long career. Yet, Wosh has done so while achieving immense success and making significant contributions to all of those clubs. Wosh’s influence and contributions extend far beyond the club level. You would be hard-pressed to find a player as deeply involved in the league as Wosh has been. Her involvement in the simmers committee, league committee, and nearly every foundational aspect of the league is rather impressive. The extent of her impact is impossible to quantify. Wosh is a large part of why the league continues to operate and why people enjoy it - whether through direct interactions with her or through the many aspects of the league she has shaped.

Wosh’s impact off the field has been insurmountable. While her on-field statistics are impressive, they are often deflated due to her willingness and kindness in prioritising the involvement of others before herself. A great example of this happened just last week when I, a hardly posting player, remained silent, and Wosh offered up her position in the team for me or anyone else the leadership group thought appropriate to have.

Wosh’s induction into the Sweet Football Association Hall of Fame is both richly deserved and overdue. It gives me immense pleasure that my name will appear in the same records as hers.

On a personal note, Wosh has been immensely important to numerous people over the years, and I am one of them. She has always been a listener, a point of care and trust, and a great friend. Wosh is one of the few people here with whom my conversations have gone beyond the league, and for that, I am grateful.

Congratulations Wosh, on this well-deserved recognition. Your legacy here will last forever.

We all recognise how Wosh has contributed to many clubs around the Sweet F.A. from an on field and leadership group perspective. She’s been a fantastic organiser and connector at our club most recently but has also become embedded into the culture of the likes of the Warriors and Roys.

While this contribution is impressive, I feel that perhaps her most important contribution is the work she has done (and continues to do) to ensure the board is a space that people want to keep interacting with.

This isn’t just talking about the work she does as a board moderator (that’s work that never leads you to being popular, yet is very important to the culture and fabric of the board), but also from her contribution as a mentor and support for anyone who needs it.

I know that she reaches out to (and hears from) people from any club who look like they might need some help, offering her time and an open inbox to ensure they feel heard.

It’s these little things that help people feel less disconnected and isolated, and encourages them to keep posting and being willing to interact with the sometimes fascinating mix of personalities you can find in the Sweet F.A.

Wosh’s willingness to do this means that she’s so much more than a poster, a leader and a mod. She’s a source of wisdom and guidance to many, and for that I thank her.

On reflection, this is such an obvious inclusion into the Hall of Fame, not to mention absolutely well-deserved.

Since her debut all the way back in Season 20, Wosh has been an absolute institution of the Sweet FA - and she started early, winning the EKA in her first season.

A deeply respected club person at her three clubs (Warriors, Roys, Demons), and across the league more broadly, this induction is richly, richly deserved. Wosh is always somebody to put the team first - to put the league first - and I know isn't one to put individual accolades first, but I'm so glad that the league has recognised Wosh's continued contributions to this place.

I'm extremely lucky to have shared a LG with Wosh over the last several seasons. I have felt welcome, heard, and supported all the way, and I think those are landmark features of Wosh's contributions. She's always inclusive and is all about making this place whatever works for you, acknowledging that, ultimately, we're all just here to have fun.

Wosh's on-field statistics (6x All-Sweet FA, premiership, almost 300 games) are impressive, but it's the off-field Wosh that's most irreplaceable. She has helped to lead this place for a very, very long time, and we're so lucky she has been here to help guide the league's direction.

I feel thankful to Wosh as a teammate and somebody trustworthy with whom I can share a PM.
