I cant stands it no more. Watching Wimbledon has become unbearable because of this ass clown. I only got too the 4th set of the Hewitt match last night when I decided that Newcombes irritating commentating along with the time meant it was time to go to sleep

His cheerleading is sickening. I can understand your going for him but he is literally deepthroating Hewitt everytime he touches the ball. Its bordering on bizzare. How can a man love another man so much without sexual intimacy.

The part where he dropped his microphone during the long rally in the 4th was just pathetic really. Lay it on John but dont lay it on so thick you can hardly breathe alright

Hes not that good in non Lleyton matches either. Rarely has anything intelligent to say and always finds someone to cheer on but not on Lleytons level. Hes a glorified cheerleader

Never really payed much attention to the commentators during wimbledon over the years.

Last night for the first time stood out though.

During fed's match, they were crossing over to the djokovic vs haas match, and whoever the **** was commentating that, was blatantly and outrightly saying he was going for haas, cheering him on, and just showing the most incredible display of bias in a sporting match that I have ever seen.

Ever.

He was clearly saying who he was going for, and consequently cheering them on!

It's not even an opinion what I'm writing here, these are facts!

At least in AFL when someone is biased, they make biased comments about the style of play etc, but this was literally blatant cheering for one of the oppoents. What the ****? completely put me off

All 3 commentators, Stolle, Newcombe and Woodforde were guilty of this last night. I was also in shock when they were clearly and blatantly cheering for Haas so that Hewitt's match could start.

It angers me that these muppets, especially Stolle and Newcombe, still get paid to commentate tennis. They played in an era of tennis that was so long ago, I wish they would retire and go off into the wilderness.

When we have the commentators during the year for the Masters Series tournaments who are consumate professionals and have great knowledge and understanding of the tactics and skills used in today's game, it makes it very difficult to listen to Stolle and Newcombe on 9. How does Stolle have a job? He hardly knows anything about any tennis player other than Federer or Nadal.

I didn't think they were that bad with Haas, they kept commenting on how often he chokes (which he does) and wondering if he could actually get the job done, but with Hewitt the whole tournament has been like that, they need new commentators, they are way past it get Courier.

didnt think they were that bad?

"COME ON HAAS!"

"OUR MAN HAAS"

"1 more set to go for Haas!"

Just wanted to get Lleyton on, which surely for most viewers was the focus for the night. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't mind a bit of bias towards Lleyton or any other player for that matter, if it's more natural that way but not at the 5000 levels above Newcombe and the gang more. It's not the cheering for Lleyton that annoys me (Newcombe saying he threw the microphone after that long rally was fine, it was an incredible tense rally, only natural), it's the constant method of contiunally of thinking Lleyton is the better player, or trying to predict what could happen next, if lleyton has 0-30 in a game, newcombe might come out and say "if Lleyton can win these next two points, it would be crucial" BS like that.

Newcombe can ahve ok analysis otherwise but he tends to be a bit repetive. Stolle is borderline on going to an old folks home, he contiunally forgets things, and has nothing to add to the commentary whatsoever. And Woodforde provieds no analysis either.

Um, that was blatantly because Fed's game was over, their other man-crush, so they wanted the Haas/Djokovic came to finish ASAP so they could show the Hewitt game. Nothing more.

Before Haas took the first set it was clear who they expected and wanted to win easily to get to Lleyton ASAP. Djokovic. And although they wanted Haas to win they were rubbishing him for most of the match expecting Novak to come back and win.

I like Fox commentators, try to stay unbias as possible >>>> Channel 9's garbage.

Newcombe has been doing this for a while though. Davis Cup, I can remember when Pat Rafter was playing in 97, 98....listening to him is like listening to a 'Fanatics Supporter' group.

^how so?

that comment had nothing to do with fed

i actually wanted to watch djokovic haas in peace

i didn't see the first set phx, but i would've thought that had djokovic been comfortably beating haas, then the commentators wouldn't have been biased at all. if they were rubbishing haas too, then that tones down the ridiculousness. Having said that, I still think it's unprofessional as **** and downright stupid for a commentator to be blatantly supporting a tennis player like that. Fair enough if he wants to cream over a great shot, but to say "COME ON HAAS" - just no. regardless of lleyton or any other player being next, it's stupid. true fans of the tennis game wouldn't want a non-aussie match to be rubbished like that.

and how about the donkey commentators alway saying "off of" instead of just "off". e.g. "15 errors of off the backhand of player X". there's no need for the of you stooges, you're commentators, you're sposed to speak english properly.

Who watched the presentation after the Mens final match?

Newcombe: And here comes Pete Sampras
Woodforde: ..Federer
Newcombe: Oh Roger Federer. Sorry :D

I thought Johnny was drunk the way he was commentating cause he was shocking all night.

He called him Sampras about 4 times in under 10 minutes.

Both him and Stolle are absolutely horrible. Numerous times I was close to throwing a pillow at the TV screen. Most of their observations consist of one of the following:

"Ohhh, and Hewitt would really love a break here wouldn't he?"

"Crucial game this one, for both players"

"John: Great shot there by Federer. I'm sorry, that was Roddick. Pardon me I was correct in the first place, it was Federer.
Fred: Nope it was Roddick John.
John: Oh it was too, my mistake. 15-0 Federer."

"And there's Roddick's wife, jeez she's nice and attractive isn't she Fred?"

"Hahahaha I loved it when Roddick said that good joke in the middle of that press conference, hahahahaha, wasn't it great John? What a great personality Roddick has. (Tries to recount joke but completely ****s it up)"

"I think when Roddick won the US back in '03, and as a young kid, he just thought it was all going to happen for himself."
(The amount of times I heard this was unbelievable.)

Compare them to the likes of Robbie Koenig it is absolutely laughable. Love the Masters Series commentary and hate the rubbish we get served at Wimbledon.

Stolle and Newcombe clearly need to go. They can't even regurgitate basic facts let alone provide articulate commentary of a tennis match. It's just embarassing as the two of them obviously do not even keep up with the sport outside of the ch 9 commentating roles. How is that good enough?
