I tend to agree. The last attacking midfielder we brought in was Tim Kelly and the price we paid has had a significant impact on our quality since. We feel like we've done well here, we have some good kids that will have another 20 games experience, and we have a nice hand next draft - I'd be happy to keep buiding internally.
The price we paid for Kelly had almost no impact in hindsight. Both 2019 and 2020 drafts were really weak and the picks we gave up were pretty poor (late teens for the first rounders). Go look at the spuds that got drafted with our selections, a couple are already delisted and the rest are likely to follow.

I don't buy any hindsight revisionism either (ie we were not going to take Warner). Geelong and GWS were the clubs that recieved our selections and I doubt we would have outperformed their recruiting teams.

Are you fu(king joking?

2019 had a fantastic crop of WA talent. I remember East Fremantle pumping out great talent. Also WA won the U18 Carnival and included Jackson, Robertson, Sharp, Rivers, Warner, and Truscoe plu others. I recall going to East Fremantle oval thinking wow

So having a proper recruitment manager seperate to list manager would have challenged the Kelly trade. You do realise that with the trades we gave up for Kelly, we could have drafted Robertson, Rivers and Warner. If you may want to take back that it had no impact.

Could have, yes, if we had nailed every single pick, which is unlikely given our drafting around that time. It was the right call to trade for Kelly at the time, problem was we gave up one pick too many which we may have landed one of these guys with, but also might not have.

Could have, but would we have? I'm not talking about potential, but what our actual recuriting team would have done:
- Robertson - yes, I think we would and I think he would be the same fringe depth he is at Brisbane. Useful but no game changer.
-Rivers - couldn't have got him if we took Robertson, as he was start of second round. Probably one or the other and I think we would have done Robertson.
-Warner: maybe he would have been our second round selection but I've got no idea if he was on our radar (you'd have a much better idea than me). He went at pick 39, so most clubs passed on him at least once. Given our history, I'd assume we would have been happy with Robertson as a mid and then looked to take a tall
-Ruscoe: we picked Jamieson ahead of him, so doubt it. He's been delisted anyway.

Arguably we got as much benefit out of Tim Kelly than what we would realistically taken from the draft. I still think we would be in a similar spot now if we had drafted instead of traded.

You do realise that I was responding to the quote that it was a rubbish draft

LDU is a Restricted FA meaning Norf with their massive salary cap can match.

Surely he will be better value than a draft pick 5 prospect!

The Bont is the only Unrestricted FA that I can envisage that would trigger a band 1.

There may be Restricted FA players that a club would not match. Not sure on that list but it will include Oscar, Bayshaw, Draper, Starcevich, et al

Don’t be so naive.

LDU will get north band 1. He’s a real talent, but north will have the paper cup out all year rattling those coins and asking the question. Clarkos cleaning out the list to his players.

Keeping McKay (not that I rate him highly) would have made them better last year but they let him walk for pick 3 after campaigning the whole year.

Suprised they didn't ask for compensation for losing Tarryn Thomas.
