Looks like we have the wings sorted, but what are we doing to fix our dysfunctional forward line? We really need some class and consistency up there

For me...
Time and a full Preseason might be the answer to that. I am more concerned with our Midfield working "as expected" next year and that will make the forward line look 50% better straight away.

I'd expect our forwardline to look at least 50% better next year with a midfield that has some accountability, and kick the occasional drop punt that goes under 70feet high inside 50. The wing positions with Langdon and Tomlinson will help that forward press of ours no end. Not to mention they will get back and help defend too. The amount of times our midfielders jogged back through either fitness or laziness this year was disgusting.

While we definitely do need a crafty little goal sneak to pounce on the dropped marks from weideman, I think more progression will come from our midfielders getting a good run with injury through preseason.

Yeah. Tmac, Weid, Melksham, Hannan were all down on form from various reasons. Just getting them playing well will make a huge difference

If Brayshaw was going surely the club wouldn't be stupid enough to let him do those interviews about why he/we was so bad this year and how he can improve etc in 2020. Don't remember seeing any of that last year.

Just get him back on ball next year. He polled in 8 games between 10 and 23 last year averaging 32 disposals in basically as pure of a midfield role as you can get, and we won all 8 of those games (but not the R7 game he polled in with 32 touches).

EDIT: wait I got confused, we won R7 v St Kilda but lost R15 against St Kilda by 2 points

If hitting the ball on the lead scored goals Weideman would be a Coleman medallist.

He finished 6th in the BNF. It's not an over reaction at all to say his 3rd placed finish was one of the all time worst efforts by the umpires.

Mason Cox was reported to be looking at an Essendon trade, of which both he and Dodoro denied.

People say "where there's smoke there's fire" but honestly in AFL that is becoming bullshit. Stuff is truly made up.

Yeah, that’s the frustrating part about this time of year. The AFL ‘journalists’ (and I use the term extremely loosely) have no accountability and create their own stories. In fact, most of the time they’re the ones creating the stories and constantly talking about them, then claiming there’s something to it because ‘the noise won’t go away!’

The process goes something like this:

‘Journalist’ A: Reads post on BigFooty speculating that Brayshaw might be traded.

‘Journalist’ A: Writes article saying he’s going to be traded.

‘Journalist’ B: Reads ‘Journalist’ A’s article, writes his own article.

‘Journalist’ C: Reads ‘Journalist’ A & B’s articles and discusses it on radio etc.

Everyone with any actual position of influence: Unequivocally denies it, it’s 100% false, Brayshaw absolutely won’t be traded.

‘Journalists’ A, B & C: Continue to discuss it

Everyone with any actual position of influence: Denies it again.

‘Journalist’ A: But but but….the noise won’t go away…!! [conveniently they forget to mention that the noise won’t go away because they’re the ones refusing to stop talking about it]

‘Journalists’ A, B & C: Decie to hedge their bets either way and so give some kind of non-committal comment, so that they can always have a way out – e.g. ‘I’m hearing there’s a CHANCE something MAY still happen’ – thus if it happens they ‘predicted’ it and if it doesn’t then they also didn’t 100% commit.

Repeat cycle with 10 other players

It’s why it’s not worth reading any articles or listening to any radio stations on trade stuff: better off coming here, getting the distilled version and raging about how we’re missing out on stars. It’s a much more productive use of time in the trade period.

Even better, ignore the speculation and tune back in when the trade period is over.

At the same time our B&F is certainly helped by playing all games, therefore missing a few can quickly see you drop off the pace.. The games Brayshaw missed early last year more means it was a good year to finish 6th

Was it? We won 8 out of 9 games he polled in, and it's not an over reaction at all to say that he was in our best 3 players on the ground in all 9 of those games.

The result might show that the Brownlow is a deeply flawed metric for player ranking but unless you can show me that other players deserved the votes more in those 9 games I don't see why he didn't deserve to play 3rd under the system. Also as lose said the BNF is heavily in favour of players who played all 25 games last year. See Hogan who dropped off dramatically after Round 20 because he didn't poll between 21 and the PF. Then you throw in that Gus is allegedly not popular with our coaches.

Assuming he would have polled when he was playing VFL instead.

True, but also I don't know how great our coaches are at giving votes either. I don't think anyone would've said Viney was our third best player this year, or that Oliver was Gawn's equal.

You tell me with a straight face Gus was the 3rd best player in the AFL last season. He certainly played well in some games we won by 10 goals.

If you don't play you don't deserve votes

Harmes came 3rd with 468 votes (25 games) and Gus came 6th with 429. Jones 4th with 449 votes (25 games) and TMac 5th with 433 (20 games). You poll out of 40 votes for every game. Gus averaged more than Harmes and Jones, but fewer than Gawn, Oliver and TMac.

Did I say he was the 3rd best player in the AFL last season? The umpires aren't responsible for picking how good you are relative to all other players in the competition. They're responsible for picking how good you are relative to the performances of other players in the same games, and from where I'm sitting they nailed it.

Oh ya you really got me a beauty.
