Just wondering if it's prohibited to take umbrellas in to the footy. I'm thinking of attending a few games this year and being in the middle of winter, it's possible there might be a bit of rain around. So I want to plan ahead and assess my options, how I'll get to the ground, how I'll keep dry on the way, if I need to purchase undercover seats, how I'll avoid getting rained on during the trip home etc.
So was wondering if anyone knew the stadium policies on bringing in an umbrella to the ground. I think the 3 stadiums I'll be looking at heading to this year will be the McG, Optus Stadium and Adelaide Oval so information for these three in particular would be appreciated.

Would there be an 'umbrella room', similar to a coat room but for umbrellas that patrons can lodge their brollies for the duration of the match?

It may not even rain, I'm just looking to explore all options and have an action plan in place ahead of time in case the weather does get a bit wild so I don't get caught out.

Cheers

This is from the MCG web page.

  • Umbrellas cannot be raised in seating areas whilst activity is taking place on the arena. Patrons can purchase disposable plastic ponchos at most catering outlets.

No umbrellas allowed. There is a coat room below gate 3 or at m57.

The majority of the seating is undercover, but if I remember correctly usually if it rains row A to M will be hit 100% on the ground level.

Edit. For the MCG

You need an action plan for rain.

You need to check if umbrellas are ok up during a match as if that isn't a stupid thing to do regardless.

You support Port Adelaide.

Checks out

I'd wear a hat as well just in case the sun comes out, maybe some sunscreen. You can never be too careful.
Also consider a torch for night matches, on the way home, a street light might be out.
