I have it on a fairly reliable source that the MK's exciting top up forward, Stuart Cooper, is being currently courted by the Fremantle Dockers in Perth at the moment. It appears they have also committed to draft him.

I feel he is a great prospect for our club, one that we have sought out and developed similar to David Teague. I feel we should sacrifice an early pick to snare him.

I'd be surprised if he went in the first 40 but then again there just aren't too many key position types in this draft. He will be 22 next year and looks like he'll need about 2 good pre-seasons for his body to reach its potential, but I hope we can snare him as we did all the ground work.

I would let him go through to the keeper... to old and not solid enough... if it takes two pre-seasons he will be 24... lets rebuild with youth... not blokes that missed the boat...

But the other side to that sort of physique is that we could have a tall marking forward who is very mobile, much like Hawthorn have Barker, Croad, Dixon, etc. Having a 3-4 man tall forward line is an achievable aim, if it doesn't negatively impact on our mobility. Not many sides can match that sort of forward set-up.

Cooper has been very good in the MKs but I wouldn't think he'd go with an early pick. It's still more important that we shore up our defensive and midfield depth before we recruit more tall forwards.

I think he is still a worthwhile prospect, but won't be too distraught if we don't pick him up. Good luck to Coops in the draft, with our club or with another.
