Thread for all you Bunnies fans out there to talk about everything South Sydney.

New coach, same expectations, different finish...we got oldies like Crocker and Merritt, who should be in SOO, and then we have youngsters on the rise like Farrell and Reynolds. It's a great time to be a Bunnies fan.

Starting off..Sam Burgess likely to miss most of pre-season after his ankle flared up again, he just cannot take a break. Reynolds is the confirmed half-back for the year after his knee reco last year.

So remember Bunnies fans, if you have any news or just want to post about the mighty Rabbitohs, you can do it right here. :)

Clark and Reynolds Extend Contracts with Rabbitohs

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have rewarded two local juniors with contract extensions today, with utility forward Jason Clark extending his contract for seasons 2013 and 2014, and halfback Adam Reynolds extending his contract until the end of 2013.

Clark, 22, has played 36 first grade games to date after making his debut in the cardinal and myrtle in 2009. A former captain of the Rabbitohs’ Toyota Cup side, Clark has impressed everyone at South Sydney with his dedication to the Club and his leadership qualities.

Reynolds, 21, guided the Rabbitohs to the 2010 Toyota Cup Grand Final and is set to make his first grade debut in 2012. A former Peter Sterling Medal winner, Reynolds has been earmarked to take the step up to NRL football this season.

There are three Burgess' at Souths and one at Bradford. Sam, Luke and George are all at Souths and Thom is at Bradford.

Sam when fit is an absolute beast..but he does drop the ball often near the try-line, at least 1-2 times a game.

He never used to do that in England or when playing for England. That habbit of dropping the ball as offen as he does has come about from being told to off load the ball as offen as possible.

So where does everyone think the Rabbits will finish come finals time?

I think they will slip into 8th position, if injuries don't hit hard.
It will be interesting to see how they go without Sandow, who really ran the team in previous years.

Not sure where they will finish but expect a different style of play from the Rabbitohs in 2012.

The halves have long been the problem for Souths and with Sutton anywhere near the stand off jersey Souths will be in trouble. That being said there is enough there to suggest that a trip to the finals aint out of the question. The new coach will bring about some improvments i believe too.

Team named for frist trial against Warrington Wolves to be played 28th January

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their team to take on the Warrington Wolves in the Return to Redfern international trial match on Saturday 28 January at 6pm at the Australian Technology Park Performance Centre at Redfern Oval.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire has named a 19-man squad for his team’s first game of the 2012 pre-season.

All 19 players are in the Rabbitohs full time training squad with the team boasting almost 600 first grade games of experience between them. New recruit Matt King will play his first game for South Sydney against the team he represented for the past four seasons, the reigning ESL League Leaders Shield holders, the Warrington Wolves.

I'm hoping to be able see the Warrington/Bunnies game; it should be very entertaining. Despite coming away empty-handed in the play-offs and the Challenge Cup, Warrington were really the side of the season in the ESL last year, scoring by far the most points and tries. They'll certainly miss Matt King, and Lee Briers, who was so good for Wales in the Four Nations, can't go on forever. I expect them to give a good account of themselves, though.

Trials aren't shown here in Australia, which is a pity and unless you travel to the game, there's no chance of watching your team.
And I honestly believe if this game was televised it would rate really well.
Maybe the new IC commission could look at this and bring it up as a package for the new tv rights deal..

Is this game going to be shown in England?

That's a shame, I was hoping it'd be on my NRL feed. I'd imagine it will be on Sky in England. So I may be able to find some way of seeing it. :p

I agree with you, though; I would have thought there would be a fair amount of interest in it for Aussie fans. I really think Warrington will turn the Bunnies over. However, I'm much less optimistic about Leeds' chances in the WCC against Manly. Still might drive up for that, though.

The charity shield is the only trial shown on TV.

The All Stars match is obviously on TV as well.

Has Curtis Johnston got a Souths contract now? Been scoring a heap of tries the past two seasons for the Bears and made NSW Cup team of the year last year. Reasonable player, needs to improve in his reading of the play defensively and needs to pull his head in a bit if he's going to go further, reacts far to easily to niggly tactics.

George Burgess is quality as well

Not sure if he has secured a contract at the Rabbitohs but i think he has played for Souths before in previous trials.

So when do Cam Smith & Billy Slater come out of contract? ;)

Inglis to Miss Four to Six Weeks

06 Feb 2012

Rabbitohs centre Greg Inglis has been diagnosed with a chip fracture and sprained ligaments to his left ankle.

Inglis will spend the next four to six weeks on the sidelines recovering from the injury

http://www.rabbitohs.com.au/News/Club-News/Inglis-to-Miss-Four-to-Six-Weeks.html

Shattered. Initially they were saying 4-6 weeks of the season proper, but on reading this it looks like 4-6 from now

Hopefully its the latter.

Yeah, it's only 4-6 weeks. He should be right around RD1-3. It could of new a hellavu lot worse.

South Sydney = Melbourne Storm Mark II.:)

Now all we need is for them to relocate here to Melbourne and become the State's 2nd rugby league side.
