Keep the Billy but don’t have it mandatory?

I dont think the billy forces anything. I think people that skip, will skip regardless. If you're unfamiliar with a track before it plays, you don't know if it'll feature in your votes so in theory everyone should already be playing each song at least long enough for them to decide.I like the Billy because it forces everyone to listen to all songs. Also as someone who noms niche genres frequently I’d like to know that everyone will give it a fair chance, even if it gets the Billy.
Otherwise as soon as you know a song won’t be in your top 5 you’d skip it.
People took issue when I tried to do both of those things.People can self billy if they really feel no song deserves it
Or billy a song they also voted for so it’s negated
People will take issue over anythingPeople took issue when I tried to do both of those things.
Good point.People will take issue over anything

Just handle it like countbacks ie do that element manually. It’s not complicated.Hard to work that into a spreadsheet (re billying and voting for the same song).
People don't have to share their Billy in the thread and some already don't.
Taking issue is allowed or self billying/vote+billying is allowed?Yeah that’s allowed!
Going to sound convenient given my nom was just awarded it but should we hold a vote post-1000 as to whether or not we do away with the billy? I doubt it would get over the line but there's a few of us that lean that way I'm sure. The next 1000 rounds could be purely celebratory. Not infrequently do I find myself giving the billy at random if the playlist is decent or all tracks have merit. Just seems pointless sometimes. I do understand it's reason for existing though.
It could help retain participants to do away with it, I'm reckon some people care when their nominations get billied.
Nah I don't get this really. Wouldn't you have to listen to a bit of each even if there was no billy to see whether they are voteworthy? I guess it does make you think a bit more about which one you like the least obviously, but that doesn't affect the votes and doesn't make me want to listen to genres I don't like.I like the Billy because it forces everyone to listen to all songs. You would have got a whole lot more billies if there's wasn't a melt in the Ice.
You got my 5 naturally FossDid you give me any votes Spud?

Ghosting the SC when you've been lurking and know that you've won the right to host a one in a thousand round? If there were 8 deadly sins, what would the 8th one be?
I've been in favour of removing the Billy for a while, but if it's kept it should be kept with the same principle as what it began with - which means no Billying yourself or a song you've voted for.
The reason it's called the Billy is this:
Aw that's sweet. It's cool to know you 4 are the contestants immune from nomming trash.
