Season 33 - Round 11: Sin City Swamprats vs West Coast Wonders at
Underground Stadium
vs
Let's start with a bit of humour:Underground Stadium
vs
At the end of the tax year, the ATO sends a tax inspector to audit the books of the local hospital. While the taxman is auditing the books, he turns to the executive of the hospital and says, "I notice you buy a lot of bandages. I imagine there's a lot of wastage there. What do you do with the end of the roll when there's too little to be of any use?"
"Good question", says the executive. "We save them up and send them back to the bandage factory, and every now and again, they send us a free roll."
"Oh", says the taxman - somewhat disappointed that his unusual question resulted in a practical answer. However he is now firmly mounted on his favourite hobby horse, and ready to be critical. "What about all these plaster purchases? What do you do with what's left over, after setting a cast on a patient?"
"Ah yes", replies the executive, who actually didn't have a clue, but rising to the challenge, he says, "We save that too, and send it back to the manufacturer: every now and again they send us a free bag of plaster."
"My, my - an answer for everything", responds the auditor, who also fancies himself as a bit of a sharp wit. "So what do you do with all the remains from circumcision surgeries?"
Without batting an eyelid, the executive says, "Here also, we have no wastage. What we do is, we save all the little foreskins and send them to the tax office, and about once a year they send us a complete prick."
We're entering the home stretch in season 33, and every game from here on in is critical in shaping the make up of the 8. This game is a battle between 2 teams that are currently outside the 8, but that could change for the victor here. Let's look at some of the key stats in the lead up to the big game:
Sin City Swamprats:
Current ladder position: 9th
Last 5 games: WWLWL
The Rats couldn't quite get the job done against the Royals, falling agonisingly short in a tense final quarter. Getting that close but falling short is almost as painful as the upcoming Federal Election, but we won't go into that here.
West Coast Wonders:
Current ladder position: 11th
Last 5 games: WLLLL
The Wonders were handed a 10 goal hiding by the Bears - their 4th loss in a row. A month ago, they were 5th, but it's been a steady decline ever since. They'll want to arrest the slide this week, or they may be fighting the Furies for the spoon. It'd be a shame to see the Furies get off the bottom , so let's hope the Wonders do something about their form soon.
Let's look at a few of the stars from round 10, who will be on the radar of the opposition as key targets to stop this week.
Sin City Swamprats:
Okeydoke7 - okey has been a revelation since his return to full forward in round 9. After almost singlehandedly dismantling the Gumbies with 10 goals, he added another 6 against the Royals, to almost drag his team over the line. The Wonders back 6 will be having some sleepless nights this week, as they try to work out a way to counter his influence.
Ant Bear - everybody's favourite ex admin (!) gathered an impressive 26 possessions from his wing, which gave his team some much needed drive.
GremioPower - GP has been one of the Rats' most influential players for most of the season, and his 11 hit outs and 15 possessions against the Royals were largely responsible, in helping his team get so close.
West Coast Wonders:
NinjaSwan - played an outstanding game in ruck: accumulating a massive 25 hit outs and gathering 23 possessions. His meeting with GremioPower this week could go some way towards determining the result.
Frothies Mcveigh - the Wonders wingman (should that be wingperson in this age of equal opportunity???) amassed 28 possessions and 7 marks, to be high among their best against the Bears. He and Ant Bear should have an excellent battle this week.
damicky - the Wonders rover was a tackling machine with 11. The Rats midfielders will be trying to escape his clutches this week!!!
Who wins?
This unbiased reporter believes the Swamprats will return to the winners list this week - let's say by 7 points.
Captains please have your team sheets submitted by 11.59pm (AEST) on Thursday.
