GWS Goose just asked for new terms on his contract, not sure why? Our current contract giving him unlimited access to seeds, nuts, grass, plants and berries as well as free reign to talk about running marathons isn't enough all of a sudden.

He didn't get unlimited nuts.

You could actually have some fun with this. Make a players value based upon the number of posts they did on the board for the previous season.

Teams have a cap, and for that list to be accepted the total club value must be below it.

Would have three big consequences.

Firstly spammers become very expensive to have.

Secondly trades can become a thing.

Finally it's a massive incentive to get rookies and past players (as their value is zero)

Introductory post

Money. Maybe you've heard of it? It can be used to purchase goods and services.

The amount which you earn can also be used to determine your value as a human being - or, in this case, your value as a Sweet FA player.

What's a Salary Cap?
It's the amount of money a Sweet FA club can spend on its players. For Season 31, that amount was $9 million.

But Marlowe, that sounds like a lot of money. Do teams have to spend all that money?
No, but yes. At least 90% of it (or, $8.1 million, if the math I am doing in my head right now is correct. Someone with a calculator will check for me).

What if a team spends more than that? Will anyone be hurt?
Haha, relax Timmy. We've progressed far beyond the once barbaric nature of hunting down overzealous general managers and snapping their legs - it's not the 2000s anymore. If a team spends more than the salary cap, they will be penalised $2 for every dollar they spent over the cap. This idea was directly stolen from the NBA Salary Cap wikipedia page.

Are there any exempt salaries?
Yes. Rookie salaries ($80,000) do not count against the cap.

Why?
Because it was also on the NBA Salary Cap wikipedia page. But teams (teams or clubs? don't know if we ever agreed in this league on the correct vernacular for that) might sign these players during the home & away season and this provides flexibility.

Why are rookies paid so little?
Because their naivete is easily exploitable for cheap labour.

If that's the minimum salary--
Technically, $120,000 is the minimum salary. At least for veterans (anyone not in their rookie season).

Okay. Is there a maximum salary then?
Yes. No player can be paid more than 20% of the cap ($1.8 million).

Why?
Because.

Are there any important questions I may have forgotten to ask?
Probably.

Where did this $9 million figure arise from? Wasn't it $8 millon last season? Why the increase?
Salary figures go brrr.

Without further ado, every Sweet FA salary for Season 31. :)
