What's the scariest moment you've ever had at the football?

One of the scariest I remember, was when Richard Osborne went nuts for Fitzroy, early in the game against Collingwood, round 20, 1989. It was a pretty fierce brawl, in an all-important game for a finals position. I'm surprised that someone didn't end up seriously damaged, considering some of the nuts in both sides at the time (Milane, Kelly, for Collingwood, Osborne, Lupson, and I think Conlan also made that game, etc. for the Roys).

Unfortunately, Ossie ended up blowing his knee out, after Darren Milane ran through it later in the game. :(

Another scary moment, was in 1993, when Lockett lined up Lynch (who was playing on him at full-back), and ended up getting him in a headlock, or some other sort of nonsense. The man was a bloody nutcase!

On another occasion, in 1998, the second week of Jarrod Molloy's comeback (the week after he kicked 6 against St.Kilda), we were playing Essendon.

Considering his form from the previous week, there was a degree of hype about Molloy, and how he'd go against the Dons. Early in the game, someone for the Lions got the ball in the centre, and got it to half-forward, and I noticed Molloy making a lead to the pocket. The kick was long . . . but somehow I don't think Molloy cared either way, as his intention seemed far more focused towards throwing a series of serious punches towards the nearest Essendon player.

Lucky none of them actually connected!

I also remember another clash, between the Roys and Pies, perhaps in 1990, when John Ironmonger spear tackled G.Wright. That was pretty scary. There was also a huge tackle he laid on a faster, smaller Geelong opponent, after he chased him down the wing in the 1989 reserves GF.

Strangely enough, Ironmonger also had a penchant for pole-driving players into the ground.

I'll probably get trampled on for bringing this up again but anyway, round 22 this year, Optus Oval, yeah, you know the rest.

Actually, the entire 1989 reserves GF was a pretty violent affair, mainly due to a number of psychotic Roys players of the time (Wheildon, Bolzon, Lupson, and co.).

Just continuing on with the Roy-Pie theme - Johnny Ironmonger's 'spear tackle' on Graham Wright at Princes Park in 1990 caused more than a ripple of anxiety; both on the field and in the crowd.

Plenty of concern after the Long-Simmonds incident in the 2000 GF as well.

well.. the scariest moment... wasn't at the footy it was when i was sitting at ringside at a wrestling show and a wrestler threw the mic stand out of the ring which almost hit me... but anyway..

Dean Lupson is a fearsome man except he has given my home town a reputation as animals.I once saw him storm up a grandstand and knock out a spectator for abusing him.Suspended 4 grand finals in a row when he was the coach of Sunbury. He is a true psycho. :(

when my RiCkY baby got knocked to the ground in 99 against Essendon and just laid there  while i cried :( and finding out which team he was going to be traded to and his first game for the Roos this year was pretty scary for me and nervewracking!

and all the trouble that Spider gets himself into scares me like waiting for the outcome of his tribunal apearance when he hit Rohan Smith a few years ago and also waiting for the outcome of what would happen after he went sick at Scotty Chisolm that time!

another scary thing that i will never forget is the day Nicky Winmar went sick at Francina!

I can recall when I was about 9 years old, (back in the late 70s) at Arden St, my folks had reserved seating, however all the kids use to sit on the fence. This one particular day, North were playing Melbourne and Tony 'Spud' Dullard and Brent Crosswell decided to have a bit of a box in right on the fence. Definitely the most scariest moment I had encountered....

I wouldn't call that scary. I thought the scary thing was the fact we didn't kick any goals after quarter time.

I didn't think there were many [if any] incidents in that game.

Surely one of the scariest moments was when Ossie,Paul Lynch & Dale Lewis clashed heads at the SCG.
A few people thought Ossie was dead when the ambulance came on the ground.

Another scary moment would be when Plugger got Brad Fox in a headlock. We could've had our 1st footballer charged with murder.

At the local footy, I have seen a few fights where some people in the crowd have got involved. Scary stuff. Even more so because this always happens right near me.

Travelling to Adelaide to see the eventual Premiers get absolutely polaxed in the Ansett Cup Grand Final!! Sitting in the outer fully decked out in Lions gear was an experience I'm still trying to forget!!!

The game against Essendon when the lights went out.

One minute I'm at the footy depressed at how we couldn't make any inroads into the bombers three goal lead, the next minute the lights had gone off, the goal posts were being ripped out of the ground and a huge bonfire was being lit in the middle of Waverley.

Of course it was all done in a good natured kind of way......if that's possible. :)

Anyway, it wasn't really scary but it will definitely go down as one of the most memorable games of football I've ever attended.

Sometime in the early 90's Scott Wynd got injured and it looked like he was convulsing. People thought he could die.

It ended up a not too bad injury, but at the time the whole ground was quiet

Also Simon Monton Connell getting concussed in his first game with the Dogs. Well actually after his first game with the Dogs. He hit his head on the ground with dissapointment after we lost to the Dockers and knocked himself out. It was a terrible feeling seeing such a great man feeling so low. I feared for the worste. It was also scarey coz after 96, adn then losing to the Dockers I feared we could become the next Fitzroy

Not as scary as it was for Jo Silvagni and her two little boys watching their husband and father lying on the ground being attended to by medical staff while Darren Milburn run around smiling and clapping about it!

Pffft! I wasn't at all scared about that. In reality, they got nowhere near him.

I was, however, very scared that SOS (and to a lesser extent Porter) were almost dead after their collisions.
