A question might be hes gone out on the juice the night before, at what point does he decide he has to get in and drive a  vehicle?

What reason was this for? , likely he been questioned along those lines. Did he bring the car along from the start or went back to a premises then decided to go somewhere else. 3am til 7am is 4 hours.
