There was an early season CSI episode about a entitled bloke (lawyer I believe) who accidentally hit another man with his car after a boozy evening and chose to let the victim die as opposed to calling for paramedics because he was worried how it would affect his current entitled life. And I cant stop thinking about it when I first learned about Patrick and then saw what he looked like. I do not get murderous psychopath or sexual predator vibes from him at all, just a selfish loser who thought more about himself than a person he may or may not have seriously injured with his vehicle coming home from a bender.
