Reframe that to. Sam has a Week's holiday and is catching up with friends from his days as a legend at the Eagles & wanted to watch the talent on show at Optus stadium.

Sadly, it was a low quality showing from Allen & Reid. If Sammy met them, he would have tried to figure out their current mindset and if they would fit in with what he is building.

I am sure both will be putting an improved show in coming weeks if they did catch up with Sam.

That's great insight.

It's going to be fascinating to see how they both play over the next couple of weeks

Tyler if they redid the draft today would you have Reid still as number 1 or would you have Watson as the best player out of the top 10 so far.
You asked Tyler but thought I'd chip in with a draft ranking as of Round 3 2025. These things always age poorly as the years progress though.

1: Watson (taken Pick 5 by Haw)
2: Wilson (taken Pick 18 by StK)
3: Reid (taken Pick 1 by WCE)
4: McKercher (taken Pick 2 by NM)
5: Dear (taken Pick 56 by Haw)
6: Caddy (taken Pick 10 by Ess)
7: Morris (taken Pick 31 by Bris)
8: Freijah (taken Pick 45 by WB)
9: O’Sullivan (taken Pick 11 by Gee)
10: Humphries (taken Pick 63 by Gee)
11: Windsor (taken Pick 7 by Melb)
12: Curtin (taken Pick 8 by Ade)
13: Graham (taken Pick 26 by GC)

I’ve omitted Mannagh who was a mature ager and very good (bloody Geelong did very well). Reid probably comes in around 3-4. I think it’s a toss-up between Watson and Wilson for 1 on current output, both are very good. Most would still take Reid at 1 for his upside.

Surprised so many on here questioning Allen. He’s a super talent and exactly what we need. Also was made captain of one of the biggest clubs in the league, says a lot about his character.

We already have the best backline in the league, imagine a forward line mix of:

Allen, Lewis, Dear, Hardwick, Wiz, Moore, Cmac, with Chol, Ginni, Finn as depth. Just ridiculous

Given Dear and McCabe both have or had back issues, I feel we will want to play these guys as tall flankers for a bit and manage their senior game time.

Dear and McCabe are our future we will look after these assets!

3 years of Lewis and Allen as FF and CHF really give us as strong spine with Battle CHB and Barrass FB.

If Reid wants to come, you absolutely make it happen. A bottom 5 finish for Carlton would be a massive boost in making that a reality.

Our list profile is spot on for taking a real shot now - still so young, heaps of development ahead and serious depth. When you consider who was missing against GWS (Worpel, Scrimshaw, Macdonald, Dear, Lewis) plus the talent at Box Hill (Hustwaite, Reeves, Frost, McCabe, Serong, Ryan, etc.). Mitchell has had this mapped out… and it is going exactly to plan.

I was thinking we’d replace Lewis with Oscar Allen as a FA.- no loss there

Also hoping that both Ward and Mackenzie go past Worpel by years end. I personally don’t see room for both Nash and Worpel (in addition to Newk) in the same midfield.

We could then use pick 1 to target someone like Butters I guess.

The obsession with trying to palm off Lewis is just so truly bizarre 😆😆

Yes his body has let him down but did people not see how good this guy was in a broken completely dysfunctional football team?

Hopefully 🤞 his body allows him a fair run at it. IF it does you have a KPF who's one of the best in the league

You put Mitch in this team with the field kicking and ball movement we have now and it's a minimum 50+ a year KPF

You don't trade players like that unless they demand out. You also don't trade players like that when you're going to get a fraction of their value back

A forward line of Lewis, Allen and Dear should have us challenging for multiple flags. Adding Harley gives us another game breaking Hodge-like player for teams to have to counter.

And for those wondering where this leaves Chol, well he's likely depth, and is contracted out to 2027.

I think Chol would make the perfect 3rd tall/ ruck relief. His tackling pressure, mobility around the ground would see the best of him IMO. I love Dear but hes also still a kid and should be fighting it out for that last spot with Chol. Would be a huge luxury to have them both in that position.

Very good call about Mitch not ever really getting a chance in this team since it’s been “good”. Most of the time it was butchered inside 50s when we became a dump kick side for a few years.

His game against the pies in 23 we were quite good as a team overall and he had an awesome game though.

If we can find a way to fit Allen in with Mitch, you do it

Watson has definitely done more than anyone else in the 2023 draft thus far.

If a re-draft was to occur, I’m confident Reid goes 1st & Wiz 2nd.
Probably between Nick Watson, Colby McKercher, and Darcy Wilson.
I'm happy with ours.
Saints should be over the moon that Wilson is outperforming expectations.
McKercher is prob doing what everybody expected.

A while ago I said I thought we were 1 draft short in terms of our rebuild strategy. Fortunately Carlton have decided that they couldn’t see us fall one draft short and kindly handed us the early first and second round picks we need to finish the job! Imagine if we can use that to bring in butters.

Carlton finish last
Hawthorn trade Carlton first for essendons 3 top picks (even without dodo, essendon is the club to do this)
Hawthorn trade one of those picks with Carltons second pick to West coast for Reid

Hawks still end up with 2 first rounders and Reid. Who loses? 😜

I am close friends with an ex-board member at the Hawks and he's still in the loop - he told me over a round of golf on the weekend to not be surprised if we traded out Lewis if we are in pursuit of Allen.
