Yes, I'm sure I should have remembered that kind of detail, but it's been a while. 

My understanding is that he should have been cautioned IF he was interviewed a suspect, rather than a witness.  I'm not sure that at the time they conducted that interview he was a suspect.  There were a couple of other people who were in their sights as more likely candidates. 

It was not until after the interview when he told them he hadn't met the couple, and then they subsequently discovered that RH's phone was travelling in his vehicle as the passed the cameras.  The other issue was the repainting on the vehicle and sale of the sale of the trailer. 

I think that after this, they were able to eliminate the other two more likely suspects, which only left GL in the frame.

I'll wait till I finish reading the book, which should refresh my memory.
