With the change in game style we're seeing this year in mind, how does everyone think it'll affect Sic and Gunner?

Seems like it'll work well for both of them, they're lighter players who thrive on finding space and both strong in the air.
Sicily's intercept role may have to change a bit as he may need to be more 1 on 1 accountble, but I think Gunston will absolutely love it.

I think a really skillful HFF who can take contested marks; IE - Sicily coming back from a knee would be a weapon back up forward. Good luck stopping him from 60, now we know Day can play his role, with CJ also doing alright.

It's that HFL that is letting us down in games; If you forget about the midfield for a second, since midfields are actually the easiest part of the rebuild to fix.

If you’ve got Gunston and Sicily up forward at the same time, then it could make it tough for the opposition defence to be able to defend them both. Gunston is good on the lead, Sicily is a very good contested mark.

Would this forward-line setup be able to work?

HF: Sicily, Koschitzke, Gunston

F: Breust, Lewis, Brockman

You can put Jeka in there as well when time takes down Gunners.

I've been bullish on him since the day we stole him in the rookie draft.

I actually think the rules could hurt Sicily. He’s often played as the 2nd kpd - but with the increase in 1-on-1s (and 6 on 6 rule) and quick ball movement his defensive defencies are most likely to get exposed (if playing tall) that may offset his kicking. Which prob means he’s better on a flank - but we’re also flush with flank options - which probably means someone gets pushed into midfield or forward. But having Sicily / day / CJ on a wing should work out just fine.

Rules only help Gunston is we get it in quick. If we move it as slow as last week there’s no real difference. He’s just a gun forward.

what separates James from the other intercept defenders we have is he is also elite defensively and can play a lockdown role

I don't think we've seen that side of the game be as effective from anyone else in our backline other than blake and hartigan

sicily also has a better kick and is a better decision maker under pressure + in open space than all of them, even Day

would rather move scrimshaw/day to the wing or midfield than sicily forward

Moore is our best fwd at present.
Chad can also roll through.
Burgoyne.

What's that tell ya?

That just maybe we need more class up forward, esp across the HFL - having a player that can boot a goal over the flood from 60 meters, if we actually got treated the same with this new rule (since we're always just told it's play on) then let Day continue what's he's done so far. On top of that Sic is a tough nut, something we could desperately use forward of center, imo.

Either way his injury sucks, except it's given CJ a real shot at it - on the bright side and all that jazz....

Downie has the peg for that.
