Sorry if this has been posted before, but Ronnie Burns had a car accident over the weekend. He didn't suffer severe injury but has been booked for drink driving over the limit.

Not surprising, given his history with alcohol.

Best of luck to Ronnie with whatever injuries he has suffered.

Bad omen

Sorry Crows supporters but if this thread is true it is another bad omen for your team who I think will struggle towards the end of the season.

Deserved injury....yer good comment!!

Repeat drink drivers don't deserve any respect.

That's almost as low as it gets. Too many good people die at the hands of drunk drivers.

What will Adelaide do?

Glad he's not too hurt of course but fine him the max ($2500?) and reprimand the bejesus out of him. Ayresy better not still treat him like a teacher's pet I hope.

Well Stevie Lawrence got sacked for something in the same ball park didn't he?

Also, didn't Lawrence Angwin (I'm not being "hilarious") crash his car a couple of years back while at Adelaide ? - was that when the Crows cut him lose or did he just hit the road later on, not as a direct result of the crash ?

The Crows are a pretty conservative club, they'll probably keep it all in-house.

Yeah he lost his car on a dirt road 200km out of Adelaide on the way to Skipworth's party in the pre-season, it was not known how much alcohol if any he had at the time.
Be interesting to see if the Crows punish Ronnie, it might be a good opportunity for them to set a precedent throughout the club.
Anyone know if Ronnie is still working at the Links Bottle-shop? Seen him there a couple of times last year but haven't noticed him over the summer.

A fine of $2500 and counselling is not enough.

When will people learn, that Drink Driving is as unacceptable as manslaughter. Getting behind the wheel whilst under the influence is equivalent to waving a loaded firearm around. Burns is lucky he didn't kill or injure someone.

Not only is he a high profile person, but he sets himself up as an example to youth (Aboriginal and otherwise). If they see him get away with this realtively unscathed (oh, $2.5k.....i'll just get my other pants), what sort of example does this set. The AFC will be getting a very strongly worded email from me today as a Gold Member (member since 1991) suggesting they not only go beyond this paltry slap on the wrist, but that they do it publically.

Or is this just anther case of footballers getting away with what others cannot?

If Adelaide doesn't choose to punish Ronnie Burns publicly and severly then surely the AFL should. Although not in the same ball park of certain offences by players in another league that we all know (since he was lucky and didn't injure anyone else), the sight of the AFL stating publicly 'When a player from our code is facing a serious charge we'll encourage them and the club to help the police fully and take full responsibility for their actions' is surely a good start to showing our league at least will show some balls and be a responsible member of the wider community. Time for the AFL in general to draw a line in the sand and say we won't tolerate socially unacceptable or degrading or in this case potentially life threatening behaviour anymore with the throw away line of 'boys will be boys'.

When Robbie Muir lost his license for the fourth time for drink driving, he was given two months jail, I wonder if Burnsy will get the same treatment?

Mind you, Ronnie has only taken a leak on a blanket at Geelong Cup, whereas Robbie has been convicted of assault and charged with rape etc. so maybe that was taken into consideration with his sentence?

That's all that matters. Damn these big headed Crows morons.
Why are they morons? What I read here, Crow fans say he should be punished to the max.
If it was a Port player, I would be saying the same.

Gee what am I doing sticking up for crow fans

Crows apparantly fined Ronnie $3,500 (more than the $2,500 AFL standard) & have asked him to take counselling. AFC have not swept this under the carpet & been open with their treatment, which is what most supporters would have wanted. Ronnie may have played his last AFL game.

So should I be making huge generalisations about Swans supporters that they are all tools based on your post...
