Re: Roland A Chee

Very lucky do get such a talented youngster in the rookie draft. Alot of the clubs under-rated him because of his kicking, but I think he is more then that. He's always in and under, seems to know where to place the ball but is shaky with accuracy and loves to kick a goal. Can probably play anywhere on the field too, but most prefurably midfield. I was praying for him to stay still Crows rookie pick, but I knew Rendell wasn't satisfied on him. Had a feeling he would go to Gold Coast, but you have picked up a beauty. :thumbsu:

Re: Roland A Chee

I'm glad Ah Chee has found a place on an AFL list. From all reports he as worked very hard in the past year and that was reflected in his 15.3 beep test result at State Screening.

Re: Roland A Chee

Mod might want to change the thread title to reflect his proper surname, which is "Ah Chee".

The Ah Chee family is well known in Darwin. It is a huge family and I went to school with a few of them.

Like the Ah Kit family, a lot of people from Darwin share both Indigenous (Larrakia etc) and Chinese heritage.

Before his casual interest in football turned serious, Ah Chee was a top twenty Under 16 tennis player who was twice invited by tennis great Yvonne Goolagong-Cawley to her prestigious tennis development camps in Melbourne.

Thankfully for the Gold Coast SUNS, Ah Chee twice declined and tennis’ loss became the GC SUNS gain.A hard-running and versatile midfielder in his junior days, Ah Chee was a standout for NT Thunder at 2009’s Under 18 championships and his average 26 disposals per game earned him the Michael McLean Medal as the Thunder's best player.

His extraordinary athletic versatility was showcased at the 2009 SA draft camp where he placed second in the beep test, and third in both agility and vertical jump.Ah Chee was selected with the Gold Coast SUNS penultimate pick in the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft and definitely had his moments during the club’s 2010 VFL season, particularly as a small defender. His foot speed, lightning-quick hands and ground level poise were definite hallmarks.
