I have been sitting back and watching the Vic centric media, and how they set narratives for players, and the biases they show.

We have the media going silly over the massive contract Mac Andrew got, based alot on how he was from Victoria and a Victorian team were going to offer him a long term contract for 1.5 million a year.
And now, as a result, they are talking up how much Sam Darcy is going to be paid on the back of this, and how he could be the first 2 million a year player

Following on from that, after a half a dozen good games, Dear is now also joining this conversation.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting back looking at Mac and Sam, and then comparing them to Thilthorpe, and he is as good or better than both of them, yet he has never been spoken about as either of those have in the AFL media, and how that narrative follows over into the wider AFL supporters who carry that on.

Now, why is this? Is it because he is from Adelaide as as such doesn't get the recognition? Is it because he is a loyal one club player and so isn't out there trying to pump up his value?
I can almost guarantee he didn't get 1 mill from the club with his extension, and so will be getting much less than both Mac and Sam will be.
I'm happy that he is loyal and staying for less, but it's also quiet eye opening at the difference in the way the media talk about him vs the Vic products.

VFL media.

Who cares what they think.

I would think when it comes to potential upside I've seen enough from Andrew and Darcy to think they have more potential improvement than Thilthorpe to come, JMO.

Dear way too early to make that call.
Darcy yes, Andrew is too early to tell for mine as well, given his time spent forward hasn’t been extensive yet

Either way, the fact that RT will be an A grade KPF is good enough for me

If you compare the highlights of both you see that RT has better skills with the loose ball than Darcy has. The both have similar marking abilities, while RT is a better forward ruck than Darcy is.

why would we want the media to start talking up Thilthorpe in the same way?

Let his performances do the talking and be thankful we've contracted him on what I expect is decent coin but nothing cap busting like Gold Coast had to
It's not about me wanting them to, it's that they don't. RT and Darcy are so close what they have produced, are one year apart, yet you would think RT is in the same league as Himmelberg, and not the good one.

I’m comfortable with Thilthorpe being ours for now.

All different types of players. Thilthorpe and Darcy more comparable as like for like.

Mac Andrew could be anything in any position. Very exciting talent.

Dear looks really good. Super athletic. More a Jack Riewoldt/Georgiadies type than the powerful type like Thilthorpe is.

Thilthorpe, like the Crows, is just about due. 🤞🏻

Think we're overrating TT. I think Darcy and Andrew have higher ceilings. Darcy can mark anything and is pretty handy around the ground, just needs to improve his set shots. Being 10 foot tall helps.

TT still hasn't convinced me that he's aggressive/desperate enough in the air to be a dominant forward. Good signs in his few games back though.

Apart from his debut, TT hasn't exactly been great. From memory he started 2023, his 3rd season, in the 2s with Berg being playing ahead of him. Injured for a big portion of the year it looked like he was going to explode. When the last time he took a game by the scruff of the neck isn't 4 full seasons ago, he'll hit the headlines and be talked about like those other 2.

Since he got back this year... I'm pretty sure he was the best rated fwd in the comp...

No doubt he was good, but not tear a game apart good. Very consistent averaging 2 goals per game with high point of 3. That's a 50 goal season, the media noise around Darcy and Andrew isn't because they are being projected to churn out 50 goal years. Plus the even more obvious, the initial post was complaining about the bias because the media were talking up the potential for Darcy's next contract to be mega and what about our own TT. Well TT is signed to 2028, there's zero interest in his contract, Darcy is out of contract next year, so......

Our players won’t get positive attention unless they are absolutely outstanding (Rankine) or we start winning and become a relevant football club again

Or they're coming out of contract, as Sam Darcy is next season. We keep signing players well before their out of contract year. Tex's contract got Victorian media attention this year.

5 goal showdown last year?
