Hey Rob I know Ken and he runs his business very well. Good communication and well organised. Also know some blokes who have a horse with him and they're very happy!! Well I guess they would when the horse is Arctic Command!!!!

Just had a look at the website bulldogrob. Looks like he does the same as a lot of other syndicators - ie charges decent markup on the horses he buys for syndication.

Eg the Beautiful Crown yearling currently being syndicated was purchased for $38k and is being sold for $60k. Now I know insurance, transport, vet costs add up but it seems on the rich side for mine.

Also saw this on the site

"All prizemoney is distributed in proportion to your share in the syndicate after deducting standard trainer, jockey and stable percentages."

What is the difference between trainer and stable percentages????

I think it is pretty standard across the board for a compulsory 5% sling to the stable on top of the 10% for the trainer these days. Expensive business owning horses.

Its a complete and utter rip off is what it is, put in so the big trainers who actually do nothing don't have to give out their 10% to the stable hands who are actually working these horses.

Your simply being sucked in to give them that extra 5%, trainers are the only winners in the racing game.

On the most part syndications are a ripoff.

Find a trainer and buy a share in one of their horses without all the advertising fees, overheads and markups associated with syndicators.

The best way I believe is to get together a group of mates and put in a grand each and go buy a yearling or weanling at the sales.

At least that way there is no fees for you.

100% agree. Direct to the stables is the only way to go.

Until they can get the prizemoney for a standard Saturday race to at least $100k it is too much of a zero sum game to let syndicators take a decent cut as well.

Im never going in another one with ******

I thought it strange when the manager was entering our mare(and carrying a bit of weight) in mixed races when 4yo and up mares races were available

With a couple of wins in town under her belt and a couple of good runs at the valley last winter we all looked forward to this winter

After a couple of very strange rides and race placements the manager informed the syndicate that she had had enough of racing, shes not trying and was looking for the paddock

Our horse was then entered at the sales without our consent or knowledge
We were sent a vote form a few days before the sales, it gave none of us any time to get together or to form another syndicate

I know she only had a couple of preps left in her but the point is as an owner we had NO say in anything (our fees went up when she was winning)

She sold unreserved for $4000

The new owners are having a ball.....3 starts 3 seconds

Name them

Have you found any connection between the syndicate manager and the new owners?

Ted I don't think its about them doing a dodgy as such

All I can think of is they suck some of the syndicate members into a FREE share in a new foal (Its not free as you don't get a payout from the syndicate)

So you start over again paying $140.00 per month for another foal for the next 3 or 4 years

I am livered that they DID NOT race the horse to the best of its ability in its last half a dozen runs

Videos of those runs prove she was not ridden to suit her racing style

Ah, I misunderstood. Sorry to hear mate, she's a nice mare and it's a real pity it ended on a sour note after the fun she gave you last year.

I know the mare olmate, I've got horses with them.

Ted there is no prizes for guessing the horse or the syndicate manager..... LOL

She should spend more time looking after the owners interests than those dish licking show dogs she's got

As for the trainer If I was ever going in another syndicate he would be my ONLY choice, I spoke to him one day after a race and I asked why the mare was entered in a particular race, he looked me in the eye with a shrug of his shoulders a slight shake of his head and said to the effect -:The syndicate manager picks the races

He also seemed to enjoy seeing the owners delight after a win or a good run

I have a share in another one that still hasn't raced it cost me about a grand and 16 months in fees -DO YOU WANT TO MAKE ME AN OFFER  LOL

You must be absolutely livid now.

Three wins and a 2nd from her last four starts ($50k in prizemoney) including a win at the 'bool today

You'd be raging wouldn't you?

Well placed since purchase, that's for sure.

Any new or old experiences?

I have one where a syndicator slugged the ex trainer plenty of coin because he was losing a good horse (C1 at the time) and it is the culture in Europe. Guess who paid for it?

Im assuming this happens here to Gai, Waller etc lol

Its never been standard, if you want to sling the staff its up to you
