Interesting. Review thread open b4 game day thread. I hope that means that a positive review in advance will dictate the game.

Good: Hogan's bag of 8, 34 possessions for Vince, Gawn dominating the ruck, Watts clean hands & decision making.

Bad: Norf in general.

Fugly: hangover in potentia

I think this was the case last week too although the GD thread was created the night before like this week so if we can beat Norf today I think it's pretty categorical that we've discovered the winning formula.

Good: Hogan, Dawes, Viney and I thought both Harmes and ANB played well when they were on. Also that we kicked a decent score was encouraging, hopefully we continue playing that attacking game.

Bad: Jones and Vince were quiet and didn't have an impact today which really hurt us, Gartlett never got going and really hurt us not having our small forward kicking goals as the Roos did down the other end.

Ugly: Watts' decision making was horrible and even the execution, Dunn and Lumumba had absolute shockers and gave us nothing coming out of the backline.

Disgusting: That first quarter really was where we lost the game, fought hard to get back into it but a start like that can only set you up to fail.

That first quarter was about as comprehensively outplayed as we've been in years. Thought we were the better side for a good part of the rest of the game.

One thing that infuriated me - every marking contest around the ground North would have three players front and centre and we would often have zero which would mean that whenever the ball spills to ground we have less chance of winning it.

Too many players not up to it including Tyson, M Jones, Minchie and Watts.

When Vince and Jones struggled to get possessions - need others to step up.

Only Viney stepped up.

Good:

Viney - Coming on in leaps and bounds now. Has probably been our 2nd best mid this year
Hogan - It has all been said but my god he is a freak
Dawes - Dropped off in the 2nd half but 3 goals is a good return
Tyson - Thought he was unfairly criticized last week, slowly getting back into some form
TMac - After a pretty shitty two months thought he had a good game today

Bad:

The umpiring. We got some pretty generous decisions going our way, then we got some pretty crappy ones in the last. I wish they would pay it consistently both ways instead of this shit where they pay bs frees for one half then pay them to the opposition in the 2nd half

Ugly:

Jones and Vince - Couldn't afford for them to both have stinkers if we were any chance.
Clangers in the 4th - We really went to water when the game was up for grabs. Norths pressure was by no means significant, we just panicked. Watts' bad kick to Hogan, Michie blazing away under little pressure, that turnover coming out of the back half on the MCC side (Forget who kicked it)

Fugly: drivers trying to get out of the Mcg. Some of the most arrogant, selfish shit I've seen. 4wd's going around and cutting people off when the driver in front of them tries to let someone in.

Tyson and Watts not up to it? You sir are a fool!!!!!!

Good.

Dawes first half. Looked like the real thing. Hogan - holy shit I love that boy! A dude who supports EFC texted me half way through the third quarter to say "sign him up for 25 years!!!". Sensational. Tyson looking decent, and a nod to Harmes & ANB. And how hard does that Jack Viney work? Also the pressure and class of 2nd & 3rd quarter gives me hope.

Bad, well, first quarter clearly. And Wattsy looked like a noob after all that improvement.

Fugly: Norf. I hate that team getting a win. Thomas - dog. Boomer - dog. Brad, well he just is a git. I hope they are smashed in finals because I'm not certain they can go forward in 2016. Sorry but I have a weird thing about Norf. Can't stand them.

I feel weird. Roller coaster emotions, now don't know where to go. I think I'll go to the toilet and regroup.

Good: Game didn't blow out & we fought back
2 good games in a row from Dawes. Pity he didn't kick straight.
That was Hogan's best game for us. When the RS award is decided at the end of the year I really hope they take into account the position he plays as opposed to Cripps.
Another tough game from Viney.
The fact that Jones & Vince had little impact & we were competitive for most of the game.
Gawn fought valiantly despite getting smashed by Goldstein in the first qtr.

Bad: The losing margin. Disappointing to lose by that much in the end.
Playing our slowest player on their quickest. I thought M Jones would've be the ideal candidate for Boomer.
Watts made heaps of errors today. Not sure if he dropped his head after the first one ( kick in from full back turnover) but can't be too harsh as he has been good for the last 8 weeks before & there were plenty others who made poor decisions.
In the last qtr & late in the third we stopped running & just bombed it long along the boundary where it would be intercepted by one of their talls.

Fugly: First Qtr. We were absolutely smashed in the middle gave there forwards too much space & when we did get the ball made some horrible decisions & turned the ball over.
Garlett. When he's not 'on' he's terrible. Sometimes he kicks a couple of cheap easy goals that masks his performances but you can't deny he was awful today. How any AFL player could drop that chest mark is beyond me.

Good: Hogan - fast becoming a star of the comp. his contested marking is as good as it gets.
The come back: I thought the game was dusted late in the first quarter but we fought back well against a strong side.

Bad: Dawes- I'm going to hate on him again. He may have kicked three goals but he just kills us at CHF. The ball bounces out of our forward line like a super all when we kick to him on the lead. He is genuinely the oppositions springboard. Oppo coaches must lick their lips when our players honour his leads.

Think we'd have gotten more value out of Spencer or Jamar than Michie, Harmes, Brayshaw, and any number of other smaller players today. Gawn was valiant all day but any chance of our winning the game evaporated when he went off for a period in the fourth quarter and Goldstein towelled Dawes. Momentum completely shifted.
