I've gone through periods where I remain "oblivious" and ignore my surroundings. People tend to leave me alone (I assume my thug appearance - hoodie on etc works) and look for other seating when they get on.

Lately I just get up and move to avoid awkward confrontations. This also includes when I'm only a few seats away from certain zones
