Well it’s not in my nature to be positive, especially in respect of anything to do with the club in recent times, but that was all very pleasing.

Delean the most interesting prospect out of those highlights as I kind of feel like he could be anything if he gets his confidence at the top level.

There has been one constant this preseason

The team with Serong dominates the majority of the game

One one hand thats good because Serong has gone to another level, on the other hand we might be too reliant on him
Serong and Fyfe have seemingly been paired together every time as well, and you can see why that would be a lethal midfield combo in doses. Them 2 and Brodie are really our only proper contested bulls (unless Jackson plays real midfield time).

Hopefully we find the right balance btwn the contested bulls and the others. Last year's midfield probably veered too much on the passive side where Serong had to carry us centre clearance wise.

Nah Fyfe was with Brayshaw last week

Serong is the one constant, he has combo'd with every other mid (except maybe Brayshaw? (he missed one game too)

Eyyyyy, was to their right, behind them.
In all seriousness what would you add to their observations?
Quick takes from today.
I was pleasantly surprised by Delean ‘s pace and front and centre positioning .
I thought Voss was good too.
Serong and Brodie were excellent.
White team in particular tried to move the ball quickly and use pace.
What are the strengths of Voss? I really like the idea of adding a player who fills a third tall forward role who has good pace on the lead but can tackle well.

Pretty obvious to anyone with eyes that Brayshaw isn’t a great inside mid. He should be on a wing.
We don’t need three inside mids though and the pace is worry with basically everyone outside Brayshaw and maybe Johnson. Between Darcy and Jackson and then two of the bigger / stronger mids that’s more than enough contested ball winning so long as they are structured correctly

Well he is a smart footballer who will transition very easy. He runs all day and hit the scoreboard a bit more last year. If Brodie keeps his form and Fyfe stays fit I say make the change.

Noddy isn’t up to it and Chapman has soft tissue issues. There is a vacancy.

Chapman just needs to be played down back.
More upper body strength and forget about endurance for the wing.

So the vacancy if Chapman isn't available to play on a wing could actually be Will Brodie coming into the middle and Brayshaw playing on the wing. In theory I don't mind that change if Brodie's back to his best. At his best Brodie's actually quick in short sprints (eg10-15 metres). Its when he runs over longer distances he's struggled.

Brayshaw is wasted not playing on ball

A: the wing can be frozen out of the game through no fault of their own and you don't want one of your best players in this situation
B: Brayshaw isn't a contested beast but he is one of the best 2 way midfielders in the whole comp
C: he started kicking more goals last year, which nobody else does
D: in 2022 he won the MVP and got 74 coaches votes playing on ball - doesn't that make it obvious he is very good at it?

This is one of those stupid moves Beverage would do trying to be smarter than everyone else.

I think people underestimate just how good Brayshaw's defensive game is. Easily our most accountable midfielder.
Most tackles for the past few seasons:
2023 Brayshaw 143, Serong next best at 109
2022 Brayshaw 149, Brodie next best at 127, Serong 3rd at 96
2021 Brayshaw 92, Mundy next best at 87
2020 Brayshaw 83, Cerra the Traitor next best at 64
2019 Brayshaw 113, Switta next best at 89
Have to go back to 2018 for another player to lead us in tackles with Neale the other Traitor best. Worth noting this was Brayshaw's first year too. He's also led us in pressure acts since 2019.

I know I risk sounding like a fox footy "expect" when I'm just bring up a bunch of stats but I do think Brayshaw's defense is critical to our midfield performing. He's an inside mid and probably our most important one at that.

He's also good in traffic. Has a sweet turn out of trouble.

I’d like to know how bad his injury effected his ranking because Simpson seems to be:
  • Explosive
  • Ok size
  • Natural footballer (his ability to hit the drop of the ball at pace seems ridiculous)
  • Fantastic character

He’s going to be one of my favourites I reckon

I'd say height and a heavy weighting on the injury made him slide

Pretty small for a midfielder nowadays, then again rogers went top 15 (Mckercher at 2 too but he looked the best player in the draft bar Reid)
