Really excited when Schofield mentioned that he will throw up a few surprises, will reward the kids with good form and wants all midfielders at the draft. All positives for mine and hopefully he can start tearing up some of those Hinkley gold passes.
Should be some lively selections meetings too

If we are in the window as such, would Brendon Goddard be worth a look? I know people think he’s a dick, but definitely adds depth and could play a player/coach role like Hodge and Mitchell.

You're right.....he is a dick.

Lindsay Thomas has skewed this a bit. The 11 players we traded/delisted/retired had played 803 games of a total of 3747 games and Thomas played 212 of them but only 7 for Port. Thomas was always likely to be a short term player although his games total took us to 2nd most experience by average games played per player on the list.

Take out rookies Thomas, Snelling, Hewett and Irra's total of 212+1+0+0 games =213 of 3747 games and losing 590 out of 3534 = 16.7%. So its not so bad.

Lycett 75, Burton 47 and Mayes 101 have added 223 games, so we have 3747-803+223 = 3167 total games experience.

The likes of Daniel Menzel, Jordan Murdoch, Tommy Sheridan and Darren Minchington may have new homes as delisted free agents but there are still a host of unsigned players waiting for another club to come calling.

5pm Friday marks the close of the window in which teams can sign delisted free agents, though it then opens for one hour following the completion of the draft on November 23rd.

Delisted players can also try their luck in the rookie draft on the same day.

AFL clubs must submit their final lists by 2pm on Tuesday, November 27th.

We've picked out six players currently without a club that might be worth another crack at the top level:

Hey Port fans, not sure if this is the right thread for this so apologies in advance if it's not.
Most people seem to think Port Adelaide will draft Ben King with pick 5. From the outside, it looks like your team has enough tall players, perhaps too many to justify using such a high pick on him.
I've seen people saying Rankine might be a flight risk for Gold Coast. If they selected Rozee at pick 3 instead, and StK get Max King at 4, do you think Port would think twice before selecting Rankine?
King just seems a weird pick for me but I'm interested to hear people's thoughts.

There is certainly a place for both King twins. We have no genuine KPD depth and only young KPF is Marshall. Our side certainly isnt "too tall" whilst he do have good talls in Westhoff, Watts and Liernert who all have incredible mobility for their height and could do Midfield roles. Same with Todd Marshall. Young rucks Ladhams and Frampton are probably on borrowed time.

Onto the second, if Rankine where available i wouldn't hesitate drafting him if he goes at 3 and Rozee at 4 as rumoured i would hope they go Baily Smith as a player who could have more immediate impact where as King twins would take time to develop and are not needed in the best 22. (all of Rankine/Rozee/Smith could have an immediate impact (hopefully one of the King twins slide 10)

Sam Gray is currently the only player under 180cm on our current list of 37 players (35+2 not 34+3 as draftguru has it as still has Houston as a rookie). Everyone else 181cm or more.

It's all relative...

i really dont get this.
Unless Port have come out and said it how the hell would anyone know who they think we'll pick?
Firstly, they would come out and say to some people who they have a very keen interest on. They wouldn't explicitly say who they are taking with what pick but over time you could read into all comments. Clubs will want info on who other clubs have been talking about, and you need to give a little to get a little. Here's where all the BS and misdirection comes in to play.

Secondly, people could pick up by how much they are investing into finding out about a certain player: meetings with them and their family, medicals, flying them over to tour club rooms, etc.

Rainer, Stephenson, McGrath, SPP, Mills, Oliver, Heeney are all first round picks in the last few years who had a pretty substantial impact in their first year

Enough to make us a flag contender? Nup. Which is pretty much my point. This current Port side with it's bum coach isn't winning the flag. Gray, Boak, Westhoff, Ryder, Ebert (Wingard) and the human crab Rockliff aren't taking us to the promise land. Time to think about a side that will be up there in 3 years time, hopefully with a good coach. This is why I have warmed to the idea of the the Kings. It will set us up with KPP for the next 6-10 years. They'll take a few years to develop whilst we continue to then recruit midfielders and build a premiership team.

Then I'd suggest your thinking that adding a player (or a few) to the list will instantly make us a contender is flawed. We've added Ryder, Dixon, Watts, Motlop, and Rockliff in recent years with no effect. It's pretty clear that we need a change in gameplan rather than list changes.

I still maintain there's not much wrong with our list as is.

No, I'm saying we pretty much need a rebuild.

I agree, with the right game plan (and luck on the injury front) the list is good enough and the right player at pick 5 certainly can contribute. (Much like Stephenson did for Coll this year)

I think we all know Hinkley is the key problem and the consultant failure and holding the team back, question is can the new assistants have enough influence next year.

I think that is the key question: IMHO, Surely Ken has to know/or has been strongly advised, that he and things MUST change...hence the appointments of Schofield / Monty / Brogan and changes of responsibilities for Bassett and Voss.
Then of course the AFL has some input with the now 6/6/6 rule
So we all hope that Ken sees the light and I suspect the new coaches will and should have significant influence and I suggest Monty (with more experience) is capable of being pretty forthright..
So i remain pretty optimistic that we will change.

It could be that Ken’s assistants have been no good
