Read this in the age today, wonder how much truth is behind it...

Collingwood's prized draftee Scott Pendlebury is recovering from glandular fever. Pendlebury, who was taken by the Magpies at pick five in the national draft, missed the club's opening training session and time trials last Friday.

He developed glandular fever before Christmas and is expected to return to Olympic Park today for examinations by club doctors.

You have got to be ********in kidding?!? These things can be perminant and can devlope into chronic fatigue which will cripple the young fella. Just our luck, hopefully they caught it on time and everything is ok!

Don't think you can 'catch it on time' when it comes to glandular. It's supposedly in your system for several months before symptoms start appearing. It'll slow down his pre-season, but I highly doubt he was going to be used in the first half of the season in the senior team anyway...

Josh Fraser had glandular fever back in 1999. So is that why we haven't seen the best out of Josh he has Chronic Fatigue

Fraser copped a knee injury pre-season which became a staph infection which lead to his dramatic weight loss and ruined his 2005. He has played just about every game before his 2005 'season' so don't come on to the Collingwood board and spin $hit we know to be not true. As for Pendlebury's glandular fever did anyone think his was going to be a key component in our side this year? I would suggest if he was getting a regular game in the seniors we will be having another ordinary year. I've had glandular fever and whilst debilitating it is easily overcome in time and at 17 years of age, time is on Pendlebury's side.

Oh well, a first year player, so he can recover, and therefore be pumped next year if it is a long-term effect.

Hope he gets better quickly.

It hasn't been confirmed yet so if doctors are able to treat it early maybe they can nip it in the bud. I doubt even if he gets it, it will develop into chronic fatigue that is the absoloute worse case scenario. Perhaps it only goes into chronic fatigue if you are exerting yourself while you have it (if you don't know you have it).

A long time ago my doctor thought I was getting glandular fever, but you can't be sure until the symptoms become stronger and won't go away. In my case they did quickly go away. Maybe this could be the case with Pendles?

I'm not spinning ******** about Josh Fraser having glandular fever back in 1999. He was playing for the Murray Bushrangers at time. I remember Gippsland Power defeating Murray Bushranger in the Preliminary final. They played on the MCG (Curtain Raiser before Kangroos and Lions played) and what I can remember is that it was his first game after awhile. He didn't look very good after the game. If you don't believe me go and ask him.

yeah sure that maybe true but it doesnt mean all ppl recover the same, i can tell you some dont recover at all.
Well there's no need to fear the worse. In most cases it goes away in one or two months.
Richmond supporters may turn on their own, but I think we have the most paranoid supporters out there (well certainly on the internet).

Geez people its not like the kid has lost a limb or anything. Glandular fever is extremely common with kids about this age . it may effect him this season but its highly unlikely it will have any long terms effects on his career. He is young and skinny its unlikely he would have played much footy if any at all in the ones this year anyway. Id much rather he had this than start getting soft tissues injuries .
