DOB: 29/8/1963

Height: 183cm

Weight: 80 kg

Playing number: 11

Arrived: As a foundation squad member in 1986, from Claremont

Debut: Round 1, 1987 vs Richmond – 5th Eagles player.

Games: 2

Goals: 0

Departed: Retired at the end of the 1987 season.

A classy wingman, Peter Davidson won Claremont’s best and fairest in 1985 before being recruited to be a part of the inaugural Eagles squad.

Davidson played in the first game against Richmond, but took little part after being injured early. He managed just one more game for the Eagles, the round 3 loss to Sydney, a frustrating series of soft-tissue injuries preventing him from having more of an impact.

At the end of the season he announced his retirement from VFL footy due to his persistent injuries. Brisbane decided to take a punt on him a couple of years later, picking him up in the 1989 national draft. He spent the 1990 season in Brisbane, managing 7 games for the Bears before returning to WA.

Davidson then joined East Fremantle, where he played in their 1992 WAFL flag.

A very very very good footballer completely crocked by injury!

I really liked watching Davo play right through to when we picked him up but unfortunately injury came and he was never the same.

Going into 1987 he was as likely as anyone to be the first star produced by our club.

Did you play against him Eagle87

Was just racking my brain. I don't think I actually played against him unless it was as pretty young kids.

Was around that group of guys for a few years though, certainly trained with him at times.

He really is one of those coulda been guys ...

Yeah I remember the name from when I was a youngster - my Dad followed the WAFL pretty hard core through the 80's so that was my first taste of footy, we were East Freo though so it was all Peake, and Budgy and co.

There were so many guys through those years that missed out from becoming stars because the systems weren't there to get their bodies right. Even in my vintage of guys hitting AFL age (mid-late 90's) I was doing a Human Movement (Sports Science) degree and we had guys breaking down that should've made it, ad probably would today....

What were the injuries that Davo got screwed by?

If memory serves it was either ankle dramas or something more related to the feet? Or maybe it was Andrew Macnish who had the ankle dramas, and Davo the feet... Damn shame the amount of early Eagles who lost significant chunks of time to injuries. Throw Laurie Keene in there too.

MacNish had feet problems from memory.

Makes you wonder how our lack of decent facilities impacted the careers of some of these early blokes

But hey we were gifted a state team so it didn't matter that our first preseason was done training out of car boots

So many talented West Aussies in the VFL back then as there is now, we really do know how to produce some great talent. The trick now is keeping them here and enticing the great ones back.

One of my favourite Tigers of all time. Silky smooth mover. Kept us in games in 85 a few times. One of the best wingmen I saw watching Claremont.. and I saw a few.

Sad outcome for a very talented footballer.

He just had no luck - I think one of his injuries occurred when he was have a kick to kick at his local park.
