I work at a Sports Store and had a quick look at the ordering catalogue for a few clubs this week. Noticed that the Cats have finished their alignment with Slazenger as their appearal sponsor and have now moved on to ISC(did cricket awhile back and a few RL teams now) in 2008. Whilst speaking to the ISC sales rep he informed me that the Geelong logo with the traditional gfc will be changing to a new modern look and that will also be placed on both guernseys. Has anyone heard anything about this or seen a picture prehaps? The catalogue had the old logo but he assured me it was changing.

Re: New Logo??

Yeah, I've heard about that, but I was hoping it wasn't true.
I like the current logo.
We won a premiership with Slazenger & our current logo, I wish we could just keep them and not change them straight after it.

Re: New Logo??

Simple logos are the best ones.

At first I didn't like the GFC logo (pretty much because I loved the Cat one) but I've grown to like it.

Has this apparent "crap" logo been assured? Or can it be changed?

They should bring out a few different designs and let the members decide.:thumbsu: Sort of like the clash jumper.

Re: New Logo??

As I have mentioned, I have seen it. Its a cats face in logo of blue and white hoops. Nice idea, but I the cats face looks ordinary.

Re: New Logo??

To me it's just silly.

We've had our best season of all time, with our logo splashed everywhere, and people have grown to associate it with Geelong.

Now we change it.

Changing a logo should occur at a time of a change, such as the Hawks about to enter a new era of success (perhaps), or Carlton changing theirs last year when their administration change.

I've never studied marketing, but to me it seems that the public would associate the current logo with success, and changing it seems a step backwards.

Firstly I haven't seen it, so I can't comment on how good/bad it looks.

The main thing to me, like all changes or innovations, is does it look better than the current logo? I reckon our existing one is perfectly fine as is.

Re: New Logo??

A new logo will really date all the current apparell and given the expected increase in members next year ensures that everyone also needs new gear. The move away from Slazenger was just half the picture.

Smart move really, it doesn't matter what it looks like until I need another premiership tattoo!

Re: New Logo??

I'm not a fan of changing the logo.

I like our current logo. It is modern, yet traditional. We don't all need gimmicky American style logos. There is nothing wrong with a keeping a traditional logo.

I am looking forward to seeing it though and forming my own opinion, but disappointed that it will be on our new ISC gear next year. Would have liked to have kept the GFC Shield.

Spot on, the longer we have it, the greater recognition and identity it will have. I don't think there is any need to change it.

Re: New Logo??

I would love to but I was told not show any anyone until release date. The company I work for produces some AFL stuff. I think the release date is November 1.

Its not that bad, its just a bit different to what we have ever had.

Re: New Logo??

yeh not in favour of a logo change no matter what it is to...

heard a just after the gf that this was occuring, something about wanting to re-associate geelong with the cat rather than just gfc.

anyone know if this has been on the cards for a while and whether or not the change is definate?

Re: New Logo??

WORRIED ABOUT THE SOUND OF THIS LOGO.
Particularly in the way it will intergrate on the jumper.
I like the fact that our logo is a shield and typographically based (much like St Kilda). It means it can remain relatively timeless, look traditional with a sense of madernity.
Question to those who have seen this new logo.
How do you see it looking on the home jumper?
What about the 'clash' jumper (or even the apparently no longer relavent "away" jumper?
I don't like the sound of a graphic cat head on the front of our jumper.
It baffles me (although I am aware of the commercial motivations) why we would move away from what we have when it serves us so well, presents the club with great style.
