The Shins - Port of Morrow

Also add on yet to be titled works from Phoenix, the xx, Mumford and Sons, No Doubt (as a curiosity), the Knife.

And as always, we can hope this is the year we finally get that Avalanches record.

Hoping for new albums from: Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, Jericco, Twelve Foot Ninja, Gojira, Rush, Sydonia, Lacuna Coil. Already enjoying the new Chimp Spanner EP very much.

Soundgarden apparently have a new album coming out "first half of 2012".

Will be interesting, there has been interviews with Chris and Kim saying it will pick up from Down on the Upside?

I posted this on Always New Depths and Atease:

Bloc Party - I just want a record half as good as Silent Alarm, or the first EP. For 2003-2006, the music produced by these guys changed me like no other music ever has.
The xx - Obviously the debut was well-received. The hazy, moody simplicity of the debut is unlikely to be repeated. 'Open Eyes' seems much in the vein of their earlier work. I've no idea how it will pan out. But expectations are high and so too is anticipation.
Kanye West - After an album like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, how could you not look forward to more music?
Dive - "Sometime" come out nowhere for me. It stuttered its reverby atmosphere into my listening pattern and has kept itself there since. Atmospherically, it recalls an EP-era Bloc Party. Musically, the The Horrors sprang to mind. For a side project from summer-recalling Beach Fossils, the music is colder and denser. An EP has been all but confirmed.
Porcelain Raft - Strange Weeked - Yuck's Daniel Blumberg was a huge fan of early Porcelain Raft recordings. After consistent calls of adoration by the aforementioned frontman, I gave in and downloaded 'Collection of Porcelain'. The thrown together EP seemed like forgotten pop songs. Woozy vocals atop music so dream pop, M83 would be ashamed. It's the kind of music so melodic, that it seems like you'd heard it before.

Kind-of-could-surprise-me/Albums that might or might not occur:
Foals - The two year pattern is not unlikely to be broken. The second half of 2011 was spent without much touring. At least one session of writing and recording took place in February, although those Australian sessions didn't weld too much music. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Foals anymore. But I'd likely be swept up in the excitement of their third album.
Jamie xx - "Far Nearer" was one of my favourite songs of 2011. To summate it's atmosphere and aesthetic is difficult. But it was dancey, chimey, full of the underused steel pan, and overall quite beautiful. I'm also enjoying We're New Here. Is an album in the works? I hope so.
Atoms for Peace - Flea has confirmed that recording has started. But has it ended? A 2011 release date is possible. A majority of songs played in 2010 turned out on TKOL or have been 'claimed' by Radiohead. No idea how this will sound. Hopefully a little like the second half of TKOL.

Meanwhile...
Best Coast - The Adult Swim seemed a contrived attempt at musically maturity. I can barely remember the track. Crazy For You was a record as enjoyable as it was about weed. My expectations are low, but I'm curious as to how it could sound.
Los Campesinos! - Not a new record, but at least two more installations of Heat Rash remain. "Light Leaves, Dark Sees" started the comic-cum-vinyl collection. Immediate and nothing but a pop song. Certainly one of my favourite LC! tracks. The recent "Dreams Don't Become You" (with Zac Pennington of Parenthetical Girls) was fantastic as well, albeit a little reminiscent of radio-emo. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to new songs.

And I wouldn't be surprised to hear new music from Yuck and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Toro Y Moi will almost definitely release an album or some EPs.

I'm usually taken aback and surprised by debut records. I expect 2k12 to be no different.

There are probably a few unintentional omissions as well.

also it is foretold by a mayan prophecy that a band that goes by the title of 'animal collective' will perfect music in december of 2012 and the entire planet will be annihilated by the sheer magnitude of hipster cum emanating from the inner city cultural hotspots of the western world.

Bit harsh I reckon, AC aren't that terrible and don't have a huge fanbase here like a Muse or whoever triple J are playing at the mo.

New Baroness? Cool.

I want the Avalanches... how long does it take to clear samples.

I'm definitely looking forward to Animal Collective, actually. I might be in the minority, but I felt Tomboy was better than any previous Panda Bear album. Obviously Merriweather was pretty well received as well. Eagerly anticipating it.

So too Beach House, which is apparently finished.
