Would seem to be a very good rookie selection. Has the tools for modern footy. It's going to be good seeing him develop over he next couple of years.
 
Rookie watch: Who's burning and who's still learning
The Lions have generally gone for some slightly more mature bodies to fill out their list in the past year or two. In Barrett they got a player ready to contribute at AFL level, while Grewar and McInerney were both proven at lower levels. The rest are a mix of size and pace, with some difficult decisions come the end of the season.

The teenage South Australian has settled at half-back in the NEAFL and made a good fist of things. Is aggressive, has a long left boot and is capable of playing senior footy.

Matt Eagles and Mitch Hinge re-sign for 2019
Two rookies will return for the Brisbane Lions in 2019 with Matt Eagles and Mitchell Hinge signing on again as Category B and A rookies respectively.

Hinge played 15 games for the Lions NEAFL side this year and was a member of the ALFX winning side in the pre-season. “I have loved my time here over the past couple of years. There were no questions about putting pen to paper for another year,” Hinge told lions.com.au

Similar to Eagles, Hinge’s season was cut short as he required surgery on his shoulder. The 20-year-old will be aiming to make his Senior debut in 2019, in what will be his third year at the Lions. “To live your childhood dream would be truly incredible. So hopefully a good strong pre-season and off-season here and we’ll get closer to that goal,” Hinge said.

#42 - Mitch Hinge
Category A rookie Mitch Hinge continued to edge closer towards a Senior debut in 2018, showing great potential in his performances for the Lions' NEAFL side.

Hinge was incredible in Round 9 against Aspley, finishing with 23 disposals, four contested marks, eight intercept possessions, seven score involvements and a goal. Hinge played 15 NEAFL games this season and was a member of the AFLX winning side.

The emerging defender was unfortunate to injure his shoulder late in the season and required surgery in August. Last month Hinge signed on for another season, much to the delight of teammates and the Club. “We’ve seen continued improvement in Mitch’s game this year. We really like the work he’s done off half-back and on the wing,” David Noble said following Hinge's re-signing.

DELISTED LION JOINS CROWS

Former Lion Mitch Hinge has become the first player to be officially picked up in the first delisted free agency window, with Adelaide recruiting the rebounding defender. The Crows on Thursday confirmed they’d signed Hinge as a delisted free agent after he accepted a two-year offer.

Adelaide list boss Justin Reid said Hinge, a 190cm backman originally from Glenelg, would bring ample versatility to the club. “Mitch is competitive, excellent one-on-one, has a strong left-foot kick and the ability to play either a lockdown role or use his power and attacking skills to break lines,” Reid said.“He was an emergency for both of Brisbane’s finals this year in a really talented squad and has shown what he can do at state league level, so we really see a lot of opportunity for him at the club.”

The deal was essentially compensation for Brisbane for losing Hinge, who’s set to sign with the Crows as a delisted free agent as early as Thursday morning. After being taken as a rookie in late 2016, Hinge managed just three games for the Lions in four AFL seasons.

Hinge on Crows' list after rejecting Brisbane deal
ADELAIDE has officially secured former Brisbane defender Mitch Hinge as a delisted free agent.

The 22-year-old has accepted a two-year deal in his home state after knocking back a one-year offer at the Lions and asking to be cut on Wednesday.

Hinge played three games for the Lions, including one this season, after being taken at pick No.20 in the 2017 Rookie Draft from Glenelg.
