Michael Hurley targetting Lynch's hand.

So we have all seen the Lynch contact on Hurley. Yet what is not being discussed is Hurley punching and targetting Lynch's broken hand. Lynch had a well publicised broken hand, and currently has it taped, indicating it is still not fully healed. Hurley was seen smacking and punching it several times in tussles with Lynch.

According to the AFL rule book, making unnecessary or unreasonable contact to an injured player is a reportable offence.

So based on this, what is the fine Hurkey can expect?

And before everyone plays the 'If he is injured, he shouldn't be playing', ask yourself 'Is it reasonable to strike a broken hand? Is it necessary?'

The answer to both is No, so it doesn't matter than Lynch played injured. What matters is Hurley broke the AFL's guidelines on targetting injuries.

So. $1500 fine?

What a goose this op is.

Do you want Lynch to get special protection on the field because he came into the game either sore or injured with his hand?

What’s good for other forwards or other players on the field is also good for Lynch, he doesn’t get special protection that others on the field don’t get.

Either he is fit enough to be picked in the side or he can deal with the same legal treatment any other player on the field has to deal with.

When was this hand broken?

Lynch had been grabbing at Hurleys jumper to slow him down. Hurley was slapping his arm away. Throat punch is two weeks and well deserved.
Richmond people defending nasty players should be banned. :tearsofjoy:
I'll look up 'nasty' in the rules.

I'd say there's a clear distinction between targeting an injury that's happened during the game and targeting an injury that a player has chosen to take into the game.

In my opinion, Lynch should get protection if he's being treated or assisted from the ground with an obvious injury. But protecting him because a past injury 'hasn't fully healed'? You're joking, right? Even targeting a player after he's received treatment and come back on is fair game for me, because if he's injured, he shouldn't be playing and the medical staff shouldn't be letting him, basically for this exact reason: because it's a very physical game and no opposition player is going to take it easy on him.

I'd be really interested to see anyone from Richmond try to argue that the injured player that they chose to suit up for a game was being unfairly picked on. It would be an intriguing accusation.

Yes he should be fined for targeting Lynchs hand off the ball.

What should have happened was that in every contest, tackle, punch from behind, bump, jostle for position in a marking contest, he should have targeted that hand for contact. Even getting up from a ground contest, he could have grabbed his hand and then pushed down on it as he got up, just to make sure.

But nothing off the ball.

If his hand is broken, maybe he shouldn’t have played?

Oh well, he’ll surely have some time on the sidelines now for it to heal anyway...

Irrelevant post. Richmond won, Lynch contributed to it. Hurley had zero impact.

4 points bagged, move on.
Yes, the leader of the defence that conceded 10 goals despite 66 inside 50's had zero impact, with the only other KPD going down at quarter time...

Sometimes I wonder about you Tiger nuffies.

not special protection - just the same as every other player

the rule is clear - you can’t do it

it’s a shit rule - you nominate yourself to play - you are fit.

but the rule applies fairly to all players -
Even ponces like lynch

Don’t like it but again the AFL has sent the message that it’s ok. Along with punches to the neck and body. In 18 months a low level player will whack a ‘Star’ off the ball and the AFL will change their mind and slap them with 2 weeks.
