Harcourt are a bit stiff with the scheduling.

Played the semi final on the Sunday and now need to back up against Natte on the Saturday.

Lexton on the other hand have a Saturday game and play their prelim on the Sunday.

Natte finished top, so they have the chance to get an extra day before the Grand Final surely? Had Harcourt defeated Trentham in the Qualifying Final, they’d be playing Sunday.

The stuff up was probably in not giving the higher ranked team the Saturday final last week, ie Harcourt v Carisbrook.
Probably all gets a bit lost in translation when they are juggling so many teams and grades and requests to pair sides together etc.

Natte should win by close to 100 points this weekend. Very one sided affair
The grand final was essentially last week between Harcourt and Natte with the winner of that match cake walking into 5pm Saturday afternoon holding a trophy with some medals.

Trentham and Lexton were playing on Sunday for an added week to their year. Yes they are there, but weren't getting close to Harcourt and certainly not getting anywhere near Natte.

Explain why they would leave a successful club who are constantly challenging to go play for a basket case of a club ?

Even at AFL level the final 8 has a tendency to produce better prelims than Grand Finals.

Even with the number of teams, I’m not sure it’s the right option for this league. Top 5 or 6 would be a better fit, any teams below that are miles off being contenders.

It’s not right. I felt for the juniors in the Elimination finals 5v8. Finishing 8th in a 13 team league means you’re not near the standard of the better teams. To see a team not score for 3.5 quarters, and only score once the 5th place team had stopped playing, was heartbreaking.

Agree, feels like it’s just a cash grab by getting a few more teams in the gates the first weekend.

Final five has six games.
Final six has seven games.
Final eight has nine games.

Ballarat FNL has a six because the league administration that introduced it wanted the one extra game and gate for their coffers. Same administration introduced the final eight to the MCDFNL when they commenced overseeing the competition. Three more gates for the 'league coffers', read as AFL Goldfields hub.

final 6 should have 6 games. The murray league's final 6 system is better than goulburn or ballarat's final 6 system

Just had a look at the murray league. Looks like it works quite well, but Congupna (top side) will have played 1 game in 3 weeks before the GF. Could that ever be an issue? Obviously the extra rest is helpful but it isn't a lot of footy leading in. Again I'm not familiar that finals system at all so just curious.

Natte by 80 points, didn’t even have to reach into 2nd gear.
Would have been well over 100 if both ends were scoring ends and a beautiful day.
Whispers going around Bendigo that they have signed former hawthorn ruckman Ben McEvoy to be a playing coach for the next two seasons as well. Has anyone else heard this?

McEvoy from all reports has fallen out of love with the game and has a serious injury hanging over him. Could believe the coaching side maybe not the playing side.

He has been offered gold silver mur and frankincense to coach and play elsewhere and has turned it down.

You are correct S&P.
McEvoy no chance.
And certainly not at Natte if he was to play.
